I was shocked he actually listened.

“You scared?”

“Of you?” he challenged, grinning.

“Of the truth.”

“What truth would that be?”

“The truth of how big of a piece of shit you really are.”

He maliciously smiled, arching an eyebrow. He leaned back into his chair. “That’s what you think? You’re just as ruthless as me, or I wouldn’t be sitting here.”

I didn’t waver in demanding, “I’m nothing like you.” I never took my eyes off him as I grabbed the files sitting in front of me.

His eyes immediately went to the manila folders in my grasp.

“You want them?” I taunted, holding them up in the air. “Or should I make you beg for them?”

“Fuck you! I don’t know what you’re trying to pull, but how about you hand over the shares?”

I dropped the folders on the table, sliding them across the polished surface. They stopped right in front of him before he opened the first one. The realization of what I knew immediately seized over his face. “Where did you get this?” he asked, looking me dead in the eyes.

“A picture is worth a thousand words, and as you can see, we have hundreds of them.”

He took in my words, slowly spreading the photos and documents out on the table in front of him. Taking in each picture with no remorse or guilt present on his face.

I sat back, watching, waiting for a reaction even though I shouldn’t have. I knew he was a heartless asshole, but I slightly hoped that maybe somewhere deep inside him, there truly was a man with an underlying conscience.

His face stayed stagnant, proving my suspicions. He really was just a piece of shit. He peered up at me through the slits of his eyes, conscious of the fact that he’d finally been caught. His moment of truth was the exact second the double doors to the conference room flew open, bringing our attention over to them.

“I hate to interrupt this bonding moment, but I couldn’t think of a better place to be today than with you all.”

“Hi, Amber,” Capri exclaimed in a mocking tone, greeting her. “Welcome to our meeting. Would you like a seat beside me?”

She mirrored Capri’s happy expression as she made her way over to her seat. Once she was sitting, Kyle angled his chin up in defiance.

“The hell is she doing here?”

“I’m here to make my voice heard since you’ve been talking for the both of us.” Amber shuffled through all the photos and documents lying out in front of him even though she was more than familiar with them all. “May I?” Amber questioned, glancing at me.

I nodded.

She placed the picture back down on the table. “As you can see, Kyle, all the evidence to say you’re nothing but a bullshit liar is right here. Every statement you released about Capri is just another big, fat lie. All our text messages, phone calls, pictures, hotel receipts, airline tickets, and everything dating back to when you started to seduce me. Way before Capri found us in bed together, you sorry excuse of a man!”

“These files?” Kyle gestured to the evidence on the table. “This is nothing!”

Mr. Locke didn’t hesitate to pull more documents from his briefcase and slide them over to him across the table. “What about these? Are these nothing too? Because I have plenty back at my office that I didn’t even bring today, beginning with the tax fraud and embezzlement your company has been committing for the past three years. Is that why you wanted to marry Capri? Did you think I’d save your ass? Pay off your debts since you were running a Ponzi scheme.”

He swallowed hard, and I enjoyed every last second of it.

CAPRI

“You remember my best friend Ava?” I baited. “She literally had your number. I laughed when she mentioned this was what would end up happening to you, but I was too blind to see it.”

“How did you get all that?” he bit, slamming his fist on the table.

Amber slammed hers too, shouting, “Me!”
