“His fiancée?” I loudly shrieked, and my heart instantly began to race in my chest, pounding against my skin.

It was only then that last night came crashing down onto my head.

“Oh my God…” I breathed out.

The wine.

The kiss.

The cuddling.

Shit!

“How could you not tell me this?” Mom asked, her tone now calm and hurt instead of pissed off.

“I… I…”

My mind was running wild.

Fiancée? How could he do this to me?

“When did you start dating again?”

“We’re… I…” I couldn’t form words. All I could come up with was senseless mumbling.

“Capri Locke, you answer my questions this instant. He talked about nothing but you. Your history with him. Everything. Your father’s and my phones and emails have been blowing up since five this morning. Reporters are asking us for our statement on the happy couple and if your father and he are joining forces to take over the stock market. What is going on?”

My eyes widened.

Could this get any worse?

“The press is calling you the second chance romance of the year. They’re labeling you the next power couple. They’re eating this up. It’s all over the internet and front-page news on every magazine and newspaper from here to Timbuktu! How could you blindside me like this? Your father is so upset that I forbade him from calling you until I found out the truth. We’re your parents, we deserve more respect than this. He didn’t even ask your dad for your hand in marriage! What kind of man does that?”

My heart dropped, and all the blood drained from my face.

“I’m going to kill him.” Those were the first words that form from my mouth. “I’m going to go to prison, Mom, because I’m going to murder him.”

“Capri, what is going on?”

“Mom… I… I…”

“Capri, stop muttering and tell me what the hell is happening?”

I frantically shook my head, fumbling to remain in control. “It’s not like that.”

“What do you mean? It’s not like what?”

“Yes, I’m his publicist, but I am not his fiancée.” I finally get the words out. “He’s lying, and I’m going to kill him for it.”

“Oh my God. Why didn’t you tell me you’d be representing him and not Mr. Ferris?”

“I don’t know… it all happened so fast, and I didn’t want to let you or Dad down, so I did what I had to do to make your company number one.”

“Capri… I’d never expect you to do this for me. Not after what he put you through.”

“I know that. It’s why I didn’t tell you.”

She sighed deeply.
