“I gotta go.”
“Capri—”
I hung up on her.
Wearing nothing but a towel, Elias once again stepped out in the living room.
“Why. Did. You. Lie?”
He narrowed his intense gaze at me. “I could have made love to you last night.”
“Elias…”
He shrugged. “I did the podcast for you. Although, I don’t do interviews. Where’s my thank you?”
“That is not what I meant by you doing interviews, and you know it! You sharing details of your life has nothing to do with me.”
“But you’re the biggest part of it.”
“I’m not your fiancée. Why would you lie?”
“Do I need a reason?” He nonchalantly walked past me. “You were never specific on how you wanted me to handle questions. He asked about my past, and I simply told him. For years, reporters have wanted to know about my love life, and you wanted me to discuss it. I just gave them what you wanted.”
“You’re seven years too late,” I reminded.
“Better late than never.”
My mouth dropped open. “What kind of fucked-up excuse is that?”
“The only one I have.”
“You can’t do this!”
“It’s been done.”
He was right, and I wanted to claw his eyes out for it. “So what’s your plan now, huh? We pretend we’re in love?”
“Sweetheart, you’re the only one pretending you’re not still head over heels in love with me.”
My stomach dropped, and my heart skipped a beat. Stupid heart.
Did he just tell me he loved me?
Shaking away the thought, I responded, “I don’t love you. In fact, right now, it’s the complete opposite of how I feel about you.”
He fell back against the couch, placing one arm over the back. How I could be furious with him but still find him incredibly sexy and attractive only further incited my rage.
It wasn’t until he simply stated, “Love and hate is a very thin line, Miss Locke. In fact, I’d love nothing more than for you to hate fuck me, beauty.”
That I truly lost my patience with him.

She jerked back, and in three strides, I was in her face, backing her into the wall. “Are you mad, beauty? Angry? Seething from the inside out?”
“Yes! Yes! And yes!”
“Welcome to my life since you left me.”
