“Thank you,” Elias replied. “You have no idea how much that means to me, and I just want to start off by saying I’m so sorry about?—”
She waved him off. “It’s in the past. You’re here now, and that’s all that matters.”
“You know I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to make things right with you and Mr. Locke.”
“We just want you two to be happy. It’s all we’ve ever wanted.”
“I know.” He looked over at me. “Capri has always been the woman to do that for me.”
I barely spoke to my parents about what was happening between us. They didn’t ask although I knew they were dying to find out what was truly going on. I respected that they let me handle it on my own, and they didn’t raise me to be weak.
I didn’t know what to say, and I figured it was better to discuss it in person than over the phone or through text. However, the expression on my mother’s face was enough—she had questions.
A bunch of them.
Despite being hurt by his actions, I always knew they wouldn’t hold a grudge.
Now, my father was a much different story.
CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
CAPRI
“You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knowshow.” —Gone with the Wind
“Okay, spill, Capri!” Ava exclaimed in the restaurant bathroom. “I can’t hold it in anymore. What the fuck is going on with you two?”
I looked under the stalls to make sure we were alone. Once I realized we were, I sat on the couch in the powder room, and she took the seat on the accent chair in front of me.
Inhaling and exhaling a deep breath for a second, I admitted, “I don’t know where to start.”
“The beginning usually works.”
“Does that mean I start ten years ago? Because that was our beginning.”
She eyed me skeptically for a second before she figured it out on her own like I knew she would.
“Oh. My. God.”
“Yeah…”
Her mouth dropped open. “You’re in love with him again?”
“I don’t think I ever stopped.”
She smiled, simply stating, “Duh.”
I abruptly stood. “You knew?”
“Everyone knew.”
“Ugh.” I walked toward the mirror.
“Don’t get mad.”
“I’m not mad. I’m confused.”
“Okay… is it because you think he’s going to hurt you again?”
