“You can’t leave. Not until we have one dance.” He holds out a hand.

“Are you serious?” I raise an eyebrow.

“Why not? We can’t dance?”

“Mandi might kill me on sight if she sees me dancing with you.”

“She won’t mind. I promise.”

To make his point, he turns and waves at Mandi as he takes my hand, and she waves back.

“Okay,” I say, shrugging.

Eli leads me through the throng of people and onto the dance floor. He turns around and slowly runs his hands down over my hips, and I swear I might go up in flames.

Suddenly, he jerks me close against his body. I stumble forward and grab his shoulders just to avoid toppling over.

“You did that on purpose,” I mutter, fighting to keep my voice steady.

I can smell the blend of mint and soap that clings to his skin—his trademark scent. It makes me a little dizzy.

A slow, sexy grin appears on his face. “Maybe. I’ll never tell.” He pauses. “Bucket would be jealous if he saw me dancing with his girlfriend. Good thing he’s not here.”

I tip my head back and sigh. “For the millionth time, we’renotdating.”

“Whatever you say. Did he happen to see you in this dress?” Eli asks.

“Yeah, I stopped at his dorm before I came here.”

Eli lets out a low chuckle as we sway to the music. “I guarantee he’s kicking his own ass for not being able to come tonight.”

I take a hint from Mandi and steal some of her seemingly endless confidence. “Hmm. Yeah, he probably is.”

“No. Hedefinitelyis.”

“Is that your backhanded way of telling me I look good tonight?”

He gives me a wolfish grin. “Hmm. It probably is.”

I can’t help but laugh when he parrots my words back to me.

“To be honest with you, I had to call off a few of my friends,” he says, smiling down at me. “They were taking bets on who could be the first one to get you out onto the dance floor.”

“So that’s why I’ve had no dance partners all night? You danceblocked them?”

Eli nods. “Yep. Sorry.”

“And why, exactly, am I not allowed to dance with any of your friends?”

“Because you don’t know what they’re like.”

“Just like you, I imagine.”

Eli laughs. “Such a smart mouth. But you’re not wrong.”

He pulls back to look at me, and I notice that, once again, his gaze drops to my lips, which I’ve recently touched up with the frosty-pink lipstick.

“Just so you know... because youshouldknow,” he says, “you look fucking amazing tonight.” He flicks his light brown gaze up to mine. “I mean it.”
