During lunch, neither said a word about me paying a penance.Instead, they talked about theweather.Kit had informed them that the freak snowstorm had passed and an abnormal warm front was coming in.The newscasters claimed all the snow would be gone in a day or two. From what I’d seen outside, a tropical blast from South America wouldn’t be enough to melt the mountains of snow outside.

It wasn’t a heat wave from below the Equator, but a steady rise of temperatures that set its sights on the expansive farmland, leaving only a few patches of snow on the ground. The snow wasn’t the only thing that had melted away.So had the days—far faster than I’d wanted.

“Are you ready yet?”Dylan called through my locked bedroom door.

I giggled, wondering if that poor man had an ounce of patience in him.“Almost, Sir.Just putting on my shoes.”

“Nick’s about to start gnawing the leather from the couch.Let’s go, kitten. We’re hungry.”

I opened the door and smiled.“I’m ready.Thank you Sirs, for allowing me to primp in private. It’s not every day I have two gorgeous men taking me out to dinner.”

“You look….fantastic.Damn, Savannah, you take my breath away,” Dylan approved with a wolfish grin.“Too bad we can’t call for room service.”

“Little one, you look stunning,” Nick lauded as his gaze slid up and down my body.

“It’s just a pair of jeans and a sweater, Sirs. But thank you.”I couldn’t help but grin.Their indulgent words warmed my heart.

“Well, Ma Kettle’s doesn’t sound like a five-star dining experience, but I’m afraid it’s the only place to eat in the thriving metropolis of Duncan…population of seven hundred.”Nick winked.

Both of them slid an arm around my waist, then escorted me out of the barn. The setting sun cast blue, purple, and red hues over the wispy clouds.Dylan opened the passenger door of my rental—a beefy, black Hummer—before helping me into the seat. Then climbed into the back, while Nick slid in behind the wheel. As we made our way into Duncan, I couldn’t wipe the excited smile off my lips.

When I’d awoken that morning, wrapped in a tangle of heavy arms and legs, I’d made a silent vow not to dwell on the panic and fear that in two days my dream would be over.Instead, I focused on branding every remaining second with Dylan and Nick to memory.

Ma Kettle’s, though quaint and clean, was exactly as I’d pictured. But what it lacked in ambiance was made up for by the delicious aromas filling the air.The sign on the front door boasted of home-cooked goodness.Since it had been years since I’d tasted a meal like my mom used to make, my taste buds tingled with anticipation.

After sliding onto the wooden bench of a big booth near the front door, our waitress Meg—a young girl, probably still in high school—greeted us with a warm smile. As she placed glasses of water and menus on the table, she rattled off the daily special, then scribbled down our drink orders before darting away.

Nick slung his arm around my shoulder and gently massaged my neck, skimming kisses over my cheek while he studied his menu.As Dylan looked over his menu, he trailed his fingertips up and down my arm, pressing kisses to my lips, as well. While their affection wasn’t overt, my pussy clenched beneath their possessive touch.

When Meg returned, a look of shock widened her eyes before she eyed me with contempt.I was confused by her abrupt change of demeanor until Dylan lifted his hand from my arm and cleared his throat. Our PDA had earned Meg’s disapproval, or jealousy.Though it shouldn’t have mattered, I wanted the floor to open and swallow me whole.

“Are you all ready to order or what? The cook wants to go home,” she curtly snapped.

“Meg,” Nick began in a low, silky voice.“The sign on the door says you’re open until ten o’clock. It’s barely eight. While you might not approve of our unorthodox relationship, it’s truly none of your business, and certainly no excuse for a pretty, young girl like you to be rude.”

The way he complemented and scolded her at once was intriguing.Even more fascinating was watching Meg’s expression soften and a bashful smile tug her lips.I was certain she’d start drooling over him any second.

“My deepest apologies. Why, I have no idea what came over me,” she gushed, sizing up him and Dylan as if I didn’t even exist.

“It’s all right, dear.Everyone has a bad day.”

Meg giggled and nodded before jotting down our order and floating away.As she passed the table of narrow-minded women, they turned and shot us repugnant glares.

I tensed and swallowed tightly.I didn’t want to give in to embarrassment, but that didn’t keep my heart from racing or my stomach from knotting.

“It’s okay, kitten,” Dylan whispered, cupping my hand.“It’s a small town. They don’t have anything better to do than gossip and judge.”

“With your permission, Sirs, may I go to the ladies room?”I whispered.

“If you need to pee, yes.But if you’re going there to hide, we will drag you out by your hair.Understood?”Nick warned as he stood and helped me from the booth.

“Yes, Sir.”

I didn’t bother telling him I planned to do both.I simply smiled, then gathered my nerve and walked the length of the diner to the ladies’ room in back.

Leaning over the chipped porcelain sink, I splashed cool water on my face, then blotted it dry.Staring at my reflection in the mirror, I dragged in a deep calming breath.

“Ignore them. They’re jealous and narrow-minded.They don’t understand the bond I share with Dylan and Nick, and they never will.Don’t give them the power to ruin the first real date you’ve had in months.”
