Bolstered by my pep talk, I exhaled a resolute sigh as the bathroom door opened.

An older woman, who’d been sitting at the table with the others, charged toward me with a disgusted scowl. As her lips curled in an angry snarl, her bottle-red hair shimmered in the harsh florescent lights.

“You’re an abomination. You and those two men are nothing but sick, disgusting perverts. We’re a respectable, God-fearing town that doesn’t cater to whores. You all need to eat your food and leave.”

A surge of white-hot anger quickly replaced the shock at her vile words.

“Who do you think you are…the morality police?I don’t see a badge.Mind your own business, you narrow-minded, hateful old heifer.”

“On second thought, leave now before I call the cops,” she hissed.

“And report what?”I scoffed in a humorless laugh.“Friends having dinner?Sorry, lady, that’s not a crime.”My fists clenched into tight balls.I wanted to knock her on her self-righteous butt.“On second thought, why don’t you leave?Go on home and get laid or dust off your vibrator and give yourself a much-needed attitude adjustment.”

“Why, I never.Mind my words, missy, you’re going to burn in hell, you filthy little whore.”Her face turned beet red as she spun on her heel and stormed out in a huff.

My body shook in fury.I had never lost my temper or spoken so rudely to anyone in my entire life.It felt…wrong, yet strangely empowering.

Suddenly, every glorious moment I’d spent with Dylan and Nick solidified into a thick, black slab of shame.

No!

I was not going to allow her to taint the beauty the three of us shared. The hateful cow was not going to take away one iota of joy I’d experienced with Dylan and Nick.

“God-fearing, my ass,” I hissed as I fisted a paper towel and dried my hands.“You can kiss my butt, you jealous hag.I’m going to plop my happy ass back in that booth and bask in the attention those two men want to give me and enjoy my dinner.”

The words had no more left my lips than reality slammed through me.If, for some magical reason, I was to spend my life with Dylan and Nick, we would be assaulted with judgmental attitudes, vile comments, and condemning stares on a regular basis.Suddenly, what I’d been doing was all too real. And sadly, I wasn’t equipped to handle the consequences of bringing my fantasy to life.

Why was I wasting time and brain cells on what ifs?In less than forty-eight hours, it would all be nothing but a memory.

Steeling my spine, I stepped from the bathroom, and with my head held high, I marched back to the booth. The rude cow sat at the table with her friends again, huddled in close and whispering like children. As I passed them, their caustic comments buzzed through the air like angry bees.Pasting on afuck yousmile, I swayed my hips and kept right on walking.

Nick stood, eyeing me with a knowing smirk.“Everything go all right in there?”

“Peachy, Sir,” I quipped as he helped me into the booth beside Dylan.“If we’re not too full after dinner, can I have dessert tonight?”

“Of course.”Nick nodded.“What would you like?”

“A double-hard-on sundae with whipped cream,” I said, flashing a cheeky grin.

“Only if you beg, kitten; only if you beg,” Dylan chuckled.

As the women continued to shoot daggers our way, I kept a firm hold on my confidence.Yes, it was hard to ignore their judgmental and condescending expressions, but I refused to let them spoil my night.

Meg appeared numerous times—looking past me as if I were a ghost—to ask if Nick or Dylan needed anything else.

“Nick and I are going to take off in the morning to do some hunting,” Dylan announced.“Will you be all right alone in the barn?”

“Of course.I’ll be fine, Sir.Just…if you kill Bambi or anything, I don’t want to know.”

Nick laughed.“We’ll be sure to cover it with a tarp.Happy?”

“I’d be happier if you hunted rocks instead of deer, Sir.”

“We can’t make venison chili out of rocks,” Dylan chuckled.

I wrinkled my nose.“Ewww, yuck.Thanks, but I’ll pass.”

“Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.”Nick grinned.
