“I’m sure it’ll all turn out well. So, see you soon?”

“Yeah. Tell Lucy that I’ll pick her up in about half an hour.”

Living in the hotel instead of with Lucy and Aurora in Lucy’s tiny apartment has been hard.

I want us to be a family, but we need room. Our space. A home.

And I think I found it.

When I pull into the parking lot of Lucy’s apartment building, I find her waiting for me outside.

She hops into my car, kissing my cheek before putting on her seatbelt. “Have I told you that I love you today?”

“You have not. And I love you too, songbird.” Taking her hand, I hold it as I drive away.

“Where are we going?” She looks out the window as we move down the road, excitement in her eyes.

“Echo Park.”

As I stop at a red light, I kiss her. Her eyes stay closed even when the kiss ends. “We’re going to meet the realtor.”

Her eyes spring open. “The realtor? Like he found a house?”

“He did. It sounds like it has everything we want. This may be it, Lucy.” I want everything to be perfect for our family.

We pull up at the address the realtor gave me.

“Oh, Apollo, it has a white picket fence!”

“It’s charming, isn’t it?” Getting out of the car, we meet at the front gate just as the realtor comes out the front door.

He takes us through the three-bedroom-three-bath home with a two-car attached garage.

It’s nice. It’s roomy. It’s understated.

And it’s just what we want.

Nudging Lucy to give our answer, I watch her as she says the words, I have dreamed of hearing her say since we began our search for a home for our family about a month ago. “We’ll take it.”

The drive back to her apartment, Lucy talks nonstop about all she’s going to do with our new home. And since she has so much, she wants to do, getting rid of her for a while is a breeze.

I buckle Aurora in my car as Lani and Lucy hop into Lani’s car, and we all get going.

“Where are we going, Daddy?”

“First, I need to know if you can keep a secret.” Looking at her through the rearview mirror, I see a sneaky smile creep over her lips.

“I can, Daddy.” She nods, her cheeks pink with excitement.

“Do you know what a secret is?”

“Mhm. It’s something you keep hidden in your heart.”

“Who taught you that?”

“Mommy did.”

“Good girl. So, want to know my secret?”
