Pissed, I throw the chair against a wall, and all eyes turn to me. Even my brother’s as he picks up the chair. “What the fuck, bro?”

“No one’s listening to me!”

“So the fuck what?” Ares puts the chair down, then comes toward me. “These people are working, they don’t need to babysit your pussy du jour.”

“Fuck you, Ares!” I push him hard, aggravated at everyone. “Get the fuck out of my way!”

As I walk past him, he pushes me from behind, and I hurl toward a wall of amplifiers.

“You motherfucker!”

I spin around and he is facing me, panting and red in the face. “You just fucked up royally, little brother.”

Reece, our bass player, moves in between us, one of his hands in each of our chests. “Hey, come on guys. No need to tear this place apart.”

He looks at me. “If no one is saying anything, it’s because they don’t know. Maybe she just snuck out. Sorry.”

His head swivels to my brother. “And there’s no need for violence. Okay, guys? You’re brothers, for God’s sakes. Act like you love each other.”

“Whatever. I turn on my heel and storm away.

I need a drink.

“Fuck them all!” It’s not like any of them care anyway. I wonder if we would have even lasted this long if they weren’t all riding on my sacrifice. I go out the back and get into the back of the car. “The hotel.”

The driver looks to the door I just came out of and then at me through the rearview mirror. “Um, anyone else coming?”

“No. Let’s go.”

I don’t want to be around anyone right now. No one gets it.

Lucy… She’s the one that got away. But I had to make a choice. And at the time, she encouraged me to follow my dream.

So, I did. Have ever since.

God, seeing her again was a blast from the past.

We were so young then. Kids, really. But these four years have weighed heavily on me.

Four years… She looks more or less the same, but more mature.

The same, but also foreign.

I hadn’t realized how much I missed seeing her face until she was right there.

What has she been up to?

It would have been fun to catch up. Maybe even grab a cup of coffee.

I sure have missed the peace she used to bring me. The closest I came to finding that is at the bottom of a bottle, whether it be alcohol or pills.

As I get to the hotel, I go straight to my room, grab one of the complimentary bottles, and head to the bathroom, getting naked as I go.

As hot water runs down my back, I put the kiss the mouth of the bottle and turn it bottom’s up, gulping a few healthy mouthfuls of whisky.

Why the hell did Lucy just up and leave like that?

A few more gulps, and the world starts blurring around me.
