Babylon - 5 Seconds of Summer

“Kay,” I rasp. I want to hear her voice.

Despite the ringing in my ears, I can hear the metal groaning around me.

Everything and nothing hurts all at once. My body keeps going from excruciating pain to numbness in split seconds.

“Kayla,” I call again despite it making my lungs burn. I can’t fucking breathe with the airbag so tight against my chest.

Something is dripping on me. It takes me a few seconds to realize I’m upside down, and it’s blood from a wound in my leg.

“Baby, talk to me.”

My neck screams in agony as I try to turn my head to the side, but nothing hurts like the panic that seizes my heart.

She’s not here.

She was ejected from the car.

Reality hits me in the face. The road, the speed.

But I didn’t do anything wrong. It was dark, but no one was there. We were driving the country roads that lead from the lake, through the woods, and back to the residential areas of Stoneview. There was absolutely no one there. I remember a crossroads, but we were on the main road.

No, that car came out of nowhere. It didn’t even have its lights on.

This was planned.

“Kayla!” I roar, adrenaline finally kicking in. “Run!”

I don’t even know if she can hear me. Fuck, I don’t even know if she’s conscious. But on the small chance that she is, she needs to get out of here.

Steps come my way, crushing glass and stopping right by my broken window. The position I’m in stops me from moving entirely. I’m upside down, my seatbelt practically strangling me, the airbag crushing me against the seat.

Someone kneels by me. “Kayla is taking a rest by the side of the road.”

A Russian accent.

Superb.

“I see the puppies are out to play,” I groan painfully.

I knew the Bratva Wolves were after me. I should have taken a page out of their books and had my meeting at home.

I see the flash of a blade, and the airbag starts deflating. My seatbelt is cut and before I can do anything, I’m being dragged out of the car by my shoulders.

I grunt when he drops me on the grass. Closing my eyes, I lick my bloody lips before opening them again and looking around. We’re off the road. It looks like the car tumbled down until it hit the line of the trees. Farther back, I can see a body lying by the road next to a huge pick-up truck with a custom bullbar attached to the front.

“That’s some fucked-up vehicle you have.”

Standing above me, I watch him put his knife away.

“Is that my wife lying over there?”
