“Kay!” The feminine gasp grabs my attention, and the small form hurrying toward me leaves no doubt that it’s Jade. “Elliot, Ethan!” she screams to the rest of the house. “Come here!”

I feel myself swaying, and two arms catch me at the waist. “No shouting,” I rasp. “My head is…” I don’t even bother finishing my sentence, my words too mumbled anyway.

“Holy shit.” Elliot’s worried voice annoys me. I’m not that bad, am I? “Kay, what happened? Where were you?”

Jade’s arms are replaced by his. “I’m fine.” I try to shrug him off, but the step I take on my own is a failure, and I’m starting to fall when he catches me again.

“You say you’re fine because you can’t see your fucking face,” Elliot bites back. “Let me carry you.”

I snort, shaking my head. “What am I? A damsel in distress or something?”

“No, but you sure as fuck are a stubborn bitch in distress.”

“Fuck, Kay.” This time, it’s Ethan entering the room.

“Help me get her to your bed,” his brother orders.

“I need water,” I croak. “And a gun. Give me a gun and I’ll be on my way.”

Jade runs to their kitchen, as the guys force me to hook my arms behind each of their necks. They lean down to help me walk and guide me to Ethan’s bedroom.

I bite back a whimper when they lay me down on the bed, the simple act of resting my head making my headache worse.

“What the fuck happened?” Elliot asks, crossing his arms over his chest as he stands by my head. “We looked everywhere for you.”

“Logan and Law caught me last night. Tried to kill me. I managed to get away, but then—” I lick my lips. I don’t know if I have the strength to get into the last twelve hours with Nate, so I keep it short. “Then Nathan White wanted his revenge too.”

Jade runs in with a glass of water, and I down it, so she heads back to the kitchen.

“Yeah, everyone’s saying he’s back. And we know who put him away, Kay. You need to lay low. Stay here for a while.”

Like I have a fucking choice. I gave my own street to Emma Scott. But I’m not cowering from Nate.

He’s a threat.

Threats get eliminated.

I shake my head. “Listen. I met with Emma. Nate is the one who has been supporting her. They fucked us over completely. She took everything from us.”

I go over the talk I had, telling them everything I was forced to agree to.

“That’s bullshit,” he barks. “How the fuck are we meant to survive?”

“For now, I need you to pass the word around. Make sure everyone respects those fucking rules. Look out for the rats who will change sides right away. Especially the guys who left NSC to join us in the last few years. Trust no one, Elliot.”

Ethan takes a step closer, joining his brother by my side just as Jade walks back in. I down another glass as he observes me. “You sound like you’re about to do something stupid. Something that might get you killed.”

“Not stupid. I’m putting an end to this before it even begins. I need to kill Nate. If I don’t, he’ll kill me.”

“The guy is a psychopath,” Elliot says, almost to himself, running a hand through his blond strands. “He won’t kill you. He’ll make you suffer.”

“Yeah.” I nod, the memories of earlier all too clear. My stomach twists and my thighs tense. “Yeah, I know. That’s why I need to get rid of him now.”

The brothers eye each other.

“So, give me a fucking gun.” I try to sit up, but Elliot presses on my shoulder, making me wince as I lie back down.

“Yeah, you’re going to fucking sleep first.”
