“Better you don’t know.” I go into her contacts and look for the number I need, repeating it a few times in my head.

Numbers have always been easy for me. It’s not a problem to remember a few digits. Giving her phone back to her, I point at the door. “Go back. I’m handling this.”

She rolls her eyes. “You’re fucking welcome.”

“Fuck you. You’re still the one who conspired against me with Nate.”

PART II

OBSESSION

'Mad' is a term we use to describe a man who is obsessed with one idea and nothing else.

NATHAN

APHRODITE - Ethan Gander

The kitchen door closes, and I don’t need to look up to know it’s Sam. My friend’s gigantic presence takes up a lot of space in a room. I keep scrolling on my phone, reading the article on my screen.

“They’re waiting for you,” he says seriously. “If you keep people from the Kings and NSC in a room for too long without supervision, you’ll come back to a bloodbath.”

“I haven’t had breakfast yet.”

I sense him looking around the room. “You haven’t made any breakfast, Nate.”

Finally looking up, I eye him standing on the other side of the kitchen island where I’m sitting. I take a sip of my coffee and put the mug back on the table.

“I was hoping my beautiful wife would make me breakfast.”

Just as I say that, Emma is the next person to enter the kitchen.

“Your beautiful wife is still tending to the bruises you left around her neck.” Her voice is a little snappy today. Who would’ve thought she would care if I hurt Kay or not?

I glance at her with new curiosity. “She likes it, don’t you worry.”

She slams her hand on the kitchen counter, now standing right beside Sam. “Never heard an abuser say that before.”

Tilting my head to the side, I observe her small form. “I can assure you those things make her come. She practically begs for it.” A small smile tips the corner of my lips. “You know what it’s like when a woman comes, Emma. I don’t need to spell it out to you.”

It’s no secret the head of NSC likes women.

She runs her tongue across her front teeth. “I sure know what it’s like when your sister does.”

Poor girl was trying to get to me. And she did. I can’t stand anyone mentioning my sister in any way, shape, or form. Especially not to disrespect her.

But I bet she didn’t expect two guns pointed at her head in a split second. Talking about fucking Rose in front of her brother and current boyfriend? Not exactly a smart move, is it?

“Holy shit.” She takes a step back, palms facing us. “It was a long time ago. Everybody chill.”

Sam’s stare is deadly, but I bet his gun is deadlier. When I put mine down, he can’t seem to do the same.

A laugh escapes me when Emma’s strong stare turns defeated.

“Next time you think of mentioning fucking my girlfriend. Think twice.”
