He caressed my hair and brought the dark strand forward. “And you are Nadira’s mother, Queen of Drevon, my Little Dove. My love. My life. My everything.”

As my heart swelled with gratitude, I released my feathers to their full until they matched Victus’s wingspan. When his lips touched mine, a rush of tingles fanned the flames of desire that had been building all day.

He pressed me harder and kissed me with fervor as if he couldn’t get enough. But it would never be enough between us. We had to make up for all the time lost.

“Joleen. I want you here and now.” He unbuttoned my dress while I unfastened his pants.

Our clothes drifted in the wind and who knew where they would land. But at this moment, I didn’t care as he caressed me on top of a cloud, under the full moon and stars that gleamed like diamonds in the sky.

“Take me,” I ordered.

“Anything you say, my queen.” He growled, his eyes bright as the stars.

I couldn’t imagine my life without him or Nadira, nor my team. And I counted my lucky stars we had found each other again.

As we made love and moved together in perfect harmony, his heart thumped against mine in the same rapid rhythm. We were no doubt, two halves of the same soul. Twin flames burning as one.

Epilogue

Kristoff

“You’re late,” Kristoff snapped at Levia as her shadow cast over the dungeon walls when she passed the lanterns.

He paced from Dantanian, who had been recently recruited, to the young sentinel, who held a torch and stood stiff as a statue by a black marble casket. He wore a simple tunic and pants and not the sentinel’s uniform. And he smelled like a delicious meal.

Levia leaned back against the hematite bars of the door as she crossed her arms and purred, “Better late than never.”

Kristoff gave a once-over to her voluptuous body and imagined his hand through her red hair, so soft and smooth to the touch. Her tight leather battle outfit and the low dip in the front, revealing her cleavage, caused his mind to reel with impure thoughts. He replayed what she used to do for him in bed with whips and chains.

“Who is this fine lady?” Dantanian sauntered to Levia and kissed her hand.

Kristoff bristled. He didn’t like anyone touching what was his. “Levia, this is Dantanian, also known as the Angel of Many Faces.”

Levia scoffed. “I thought Rafael was the Angel of Many Faces.”

Dantanian shuddered his black feathers, then tucked them away. “He was, but so are all fallen. I’m one of the earliest fallen since the beginning of time. This Rafael, whoever he is, doesn’t have the right to bear that name.”

“I said, was, and not is.” Levia took out a dagger and pointed the tip on Dantanian’s chest and offered a playful seductive smile.

Dantanian bristled and backed away as if Levia was fire. “How did you get that?”

She lifted the dagger to the bright light of the torch, and marveled at how its golden handle glinted. “You mean this divine dagger? Let’s just say it found its way to me.”

“Give it to me.” Dantanian held out his hand as if Levia would simply obey.

He had no idea what she was like. He would get a taste today. And no way would Dantanian get a hold of the dagger. Levia would soon learn not to flash anything in front of Kristoff that he might want. It would be in his hands soon.

“I found it, it’s mine.” She shrugged and sheathed it back by her waist.

Kristoff tapped the open casket lid, the ruby surface glinting under the torchlight. “Explain how this gemstone works, Levia.”

He said it more for Dantanian’s sake than him. Kristoff had already been informed by Levia.

She had been a spy for him, so he was aware of all the comings and goings at the castle. If Snow hadn’t warned the royal vampires about Asmodeus’s plan to bury them inside these torturous caskets, he would have known because of Levia. The reason he had left earlier to the castle with the two queens, who had no idea of his plans to take over the throne in Drevon one day.

During the war, Kristoff had instructed a group of sentinels to steal all the ruby caskets from a room by the dungeon Levia had told him about, information she had gotten from Rafael. They placed them in wagons and brought it back to Kristoff’s lair. Victus had no idea these were missing for he never knew how many were stored away.

Levia took a step closer. “The best way to understand is to touch it. Go ahead. Put your hand on its surface.”
