The coffee table has been moved aside, and in its place is a red tartan picnic blanket laid out on the floor covered in all of my favourite things to eat and drink, but that isn't the most wonderful thing because around the room there are dozens of vases filled to the brim with multicoloured tulips, my favourite flower.

"You remembered," I exclaim, stepping closer, my senses overwhelmed by the earthy aroma of aged red wine and richly flavoured cheese that seem to tantalise my taste buds even before I've indulged. There's also a huge strawberry cheesecake just waiting to be eaten, alongside soda bread and olives, sliced meat, and bowls of crisps.

“I’ve committed to memory every single thing you’ve told me, Lia,” he replies roughly.

"How did you even manage to do this without me noticing?" I reply, shaking my head in bewilderment.

"You, Lia Pearson, get very, very engrossed in your baking. Daisy helped me to arrange all of this, she had everything delivered this morning. I snuck it inside with Toby’s help. Besides, you were singing so loud, I could've brought in a herd of elephants and I don't think you would've noticed," Drix replies with a chuckle as he stands by the blanket, a mischievous grin playing on his lips.

"You, Drix Hammer, are a wonderful man," I exclaim, taking his proffered hand as his eyes sparkle with affection.

"I wanted to surprise you," he whispers, his voice carrying the warmth of his intentions. "Just call this a moment of respite amidst the whirlwind of wedding preparations. You've been working so hard on designing and making the perfect wedding cake, and I wanted to show you my appreciation."

Unable to contain my joy, I throw my arms around him, embracing him tightly. "You always know how to make me feel cherished," I murmur, my words a testament to the depth of my love for him.

"I might not be able to bring you warm weather, but I sure as hell can bring you all the things you love," he says as we sit down together, and Toby immediately reaches for a handful of crisps, stuffing them into his mouth.

Time ticks by, and as we talk and laugh, the fragrance of tulips mingle with the taste of rich cheese and smooth wine, creating a heady mixture that will forever be etched in my memory.

As we finish our impromptu picnic, I lean back against Drix's chest, my head nestled comfortably against his shoulder. Toby is sprawled out on the blanket beside us, content and sleepy as we sit in comfortable silence, savouring the love that envelops us.

"Lia," Drix whispers my name lovingly, his fingers tracing gentle circles on my arm. "I'm so damn happy."

"Me too," I reply, echoing his sentiment, feeling a surge of thankfulness for the family we've created and the love we share.

My body relaxes in Drix's embrace, and as I'm wrapped up in the warmth and security of his arms, I silently thank the universe for bringing us together. In this perfect corner of our world, where tulips bloom and love flourishes, there is a certainty that no matter what challenges lie ahead, we will face them with unwavering devotion, together.

THE END
