‘Actually, you reached out to me on that one. So, you’re the one that’s in my head.’ She blows me a kiss before turning her attention back to the guys on either side of her.

Ring-a-ding-ding. Look at that tongue ring. I wonder if she knows how to use that. If not, I volunteer as tribute for her to learn. I catch her eyes darting back to me briefly as she smirks. Hmm. There might be a benefit in having this connection with her, especially since it seems like it’s just between us. It can be my way in with her.

Beelzebub leads the way down a few halls decorated with scenes I can only guess are from Hell and its occupants over the years. The lake of fire is a nice touch, and a few burnt corpses for portraits really set the tone. There are a few pictures from a time when things looked uncomplicated, with gravel paths and simple buildings. No telephone wires, industrial buildings, or lavish homes are pictured. A picture of a moss-covered hill and a rock formation against it draws my attention. A distant memory is right on the edge of my grasp before it’s gone, and I shake my head to dispel the fog before catching up with the group.

“These will be your rooms during your stay. You have an hour. If you need anything, call for Trometh. He’s our assistant, and he’s been with us for over three centuries.” He indicates the purple nurple dude standing next to him before continuing. I swear, the little guy looks like someone took him out of World of Warcraft and gave a kid a marker telling him to go nuts on him. Who ever thought to color a Demon purple, dress him in miniature biker leathers, and make him shorter than my knee? Bez clears his throat, pulling me back to him as he sends a glare to our group. “Don’t keep Lilith waiting. She’s in a fragile state,” he warns before turning and walking away.

Now, he’s one scary fucker.

Everyone looks at each other with wide eyes. I’m sure we’re all thinking the same thing: What the hell did he mean by that?

“Well, temptress and I are off to get cleaned up, so excuse us,” Ryker says, grabbing Rez’s hand and pulling her to the closest room to the left.

“Nope.” She pulls her hand free while giving him a soft smile. “I think it’s best for Moni and me to stick together right now,” she says, pulling a blue-looking Moni to her side. Hmm. Now she’s an interesting mix. She smells like coffee and chaos. Caffeinated casual chaos. Yep, all bundled up in a pixie package. Moni visibly melts into her hug as they move off to the room on the right side. “See you guys in about an hour,” she calls over her shoulder as she opens the door and guides both of them into their temporary digs.

JP reaches for Zeke’s hand. “Come, mon amoureux. Let’s get cleaned up.” Zeke smiles as they take a room further down the hall together. My eyebrows raise at his meaning. Hmm. So, they are a couple? How does that work? A couple within the bigger couple? I shrug, not really caring. As long as everyone is happy, love is love, right? Doesn’t really surprise me with that JP fellow. He’s a delicious flirt, one I should learn from. Levi and Ryker soon follow the guys but go into the room opposite JP and Zeke.

“Well, I guess that leaves you and me, huh, tough guy?” I clap my hands and go to open the door across from Moni and Rez’s room when Knox—or the stubborn ox—steps in front of me with his arms crossed.

“Nope. You need to go in there.” He juts his chin in Rez’s direction.

“Now, why would I do that?” I grab his shoulder and push him out of my way, which doesn’t go as planned. We end up in the middle of the hall, glaring at each other, after he spins me around with him.

“She’s your best friend—” He pushes me toward her door.

“I don’t remember that—” I spit, pushing him back.

“—and she wants to talk to you and try to understand what happened.” He places both hands on my shoulders and forces me against her door.

“—there’s nothing to understand,” I growl out, mirroring his stance and placing my hands on his shoulders.

He knocks on her door. “Well, then you can tell her that to her face,” he growls.

Oh, hell no. That’s it!

I push the ox back, and he chuckles like I fucking tickled the oaf. We get into a pushing/wrestling match until I finally get close enough that I open the door to our room.

“Stop being a pussy,” Knox growls as he grabs my arm and pulls me back into the hall next to him.

“You’re confusing me with someone else. I eat pussy, I don’t have one,” I reply, putting my hands on his chest and pushing him into the wall. “I don’t need you telling me what to do, you overgrown caveman.” I pull my arm free, roll my shoulders, and stare daggers at my unwelcoming roomie.

Knox smirks and meets my gaze, which only gives me a strange urge to piss on him. Is that normal?

“What the fuck are you smiling at…” I say with a sneer. Why is he smiling? Turning my head, my jaw drops slightly at what has caught his attention. Rez is leaning against the doorframe of her room with her arms crossed and an amused look on her face. “Oh Rez! Hey, sexy! I was just thinking about coming over and spending some time with you.” Turning to fully face her, I beam in her direction, I shove my hands into my pockets, and rock back on my heels.

“Oh really? It looked like you were trying to learn how to wrestle with an overgrown caveman,” she says, giving me an innocent smirk.

Well, fuck. I guess she heard that, huh?

“Nah. I was just asking Knox for some privacy—” A door closes, and I look over my shoulder, only to find said Shifter gone. “Well, that wasn’t so hard.” I give Rez a smile that’s somewhat forced.

“So, let me get this straight. You were wrestling with Knox because you wanted privacy?” she mocks, trying to call me out, but I won’t let her.

“Yeah,” I admit, raising my chin and continuing to rock on my heels.

Her eyes drop from my gaze as she slips her bottom lip between her teeth and bites down through a smile. Is she trying not to laugh? At me?

“Oh, my Lord, Lynx—”
