Knots’ hands slowly move from my waist up to my face, and he just gazes at me for a moment. His breath slows down before he sniffles, and a faint smile appears on his face. “I don’t know what I would do without you,” he says breathlessly, and then presses his lips to mine.

Unfortunately, we can’t kiss for long because neither one of us can breathe out of our noses, but it does the trick. “You okay now?” I ask, and he nods, so I shimmy off of him, but he frowns.

“What?” I ask nervously.

“Missed opportunity. I should have said no while you were still in my lap.” He smirks and hops off the altar, heading over to his clothes. I walk around the altar and see Knots' sword on the ground.

“Hey, Knots, how did your sword get over here?” I ask, picking it up with two hands. Shit, it’s fucking heavy.

“When my memories resurfaced, my powers kind of got a rolling jump start so my sword did too.”

“Does that mean you have angelic powers now?” I grit my teeth as the room slightly shakes while I try to hold on to the sword.

“I’m sure I’ll have the powers that I did before I fell—well, was shoved from heaven. The fact that these wings are now a hazard is proof of that,” Knots says as he turns and promptly hits a potted plant with his wings.

“Yeah, you might want to get a crash course from Murmur before we leave,” I suggest. “Does this mean you’re considered fallen now?” Hopefully, this means he’s not feeling the effects of being here.

“To be a fallen, you have to choose to fall to Earth. All I received was just my memories back.” I catch a hint of dejection.

I wish I knew what to say to make him feel better.

I never got a close look at Knot’s sword before, but it’s gorgeous. All the swirls and runes along it. I really should study what they mean. I turn the handle to see the Demstone I’ve made for him, and my stomach drops. The cracking noise I heard was the Demstone breaking.

Thank fuck we’re leaving in a few hours. With Knots' power increased and not having all of the ingredients more readily available I would hate to think of what would happen if we had to stay here any longer, so this is perfect timing.

For once the Fates are finally using lube when fucking me in the ass.

CHAPTER 41

The Upside Down

Rez

I check on Knots to make sure he feels okay, giving his shield an extra layer of my protection, before he decides to head to his room for a shower then get something to eat. As he leaves, he promises he will come back and check on us afterward if we don’t track him down first. Comfortable with the steadiness he has on his legs as he exits the room, I turn to give my full attention to Lynx. He's leaning against the altar and staring down at his bare feet.

“You sure you want to go through with this?” I ask, biting my sore bottom lip as I wait for his answer.

“I really don’t think I have a choice,” he states before focusing his turquoise eyes back on me.

My lip jerks up into an awkward smile. “You always have a choice. I would never force you to go through what Knots just did,” I say. Anxiety takes over about what choice he’ll make, and I grab the hem of my shirt, twisting it to give my hands something to do.

I’m a bundle of nerves. On one hand, I do want my old Lynx back, but what kind of person would I be to ask him to relive his torture and death? If I had known what awaited Knots, I would have warned him beforehand. Either way, it’s their choice, but I can at least help them by playing devil’s advocate.

“I don’t like feeling like a part of me is missing. I mean, you and the guys do a great job of making me feel included, but… I don’t feel whole. I want to do it, Rez. If anything, I want to have a deeper connection to you. I feel as if we should, but something is blocking it,” he says and starts undoing his pants before pushing them down.

“Fuck, Lynx.” I turn quickly and give him my back. “What is up with you and Ryker not liking underwear?”

He chuckles as I slowly maneuver to the altar and grab the drape and hold it up. “Oh, come on, you know you want to peek. It’s magnificent!”

I raise the cloth between my hands and hold it out to him. “Somehow it seems wrong since you don’t have your memory. So, do me a favor and wrap your shit up, will you?” I tease.

“You’re such a cocktease, you know that?” Lynx pouts but takes the drape from me. “Okay, I’m decent… somewhat.”

I turn and give Lynx a teasing smile. “I’m not a cocktease. I use them properly. Never had a complaint yet. Now get on the altar,” I instruct and bat my eyelashes.

His hand morphs into claws and he playfully swipes his paw in my direction. “Rawr!”

“Changing your mind?” I ask, holding up the vial that he has to drink.
