He scoffs as he reaches out and plucks one of the flying bowls out of the lineup. “Not at all. First, she’s never cooked for us. Second, this flying circus”—he points up to the flying food—“I didn’t know it was a thing,” he confesses, as he scoops what looks like a piece of chicken onto his plate before offering me the bowl. “Want a piece?”

Movement catches my eye, and I focus on Moni as she pours milk into her Sparks gallon cup and desperately shakes it. Her bark turns periwinkle, a color I’ve never seen on her, and I’ll need to ask JP about it. I suppose the milk is her way of rationing her coffee. I don’t know how long that’s going to last.

I give my attention back to Ryker, saying, “Sure. Thanks.” I grab the bowl and help myself to a piece, too. At least, that’s what I’m going to tell myself. I gently raise the bowl, mimicking the others, and snort when I feel it leave my fingers and join the other floating serving bowls.

You’d think with the revelations of coming to Purgatory, learning about Supes, and getting some powers of my own, things wouldn’t surprise me anymore, but that's definitely not the case.

Bring on the dinner. I’m hungry, and nothing in this godforsaken place is gonna stop me from eating. The room shakes violently, and I hear a groan and cursing from Lucifer’s end of the table.

Okay, so nothing is going to stop me from eating unless it’s an untimely death by L.A.M.B.

CHAPTER 7

Nightcap in Hell

Zeke

Dinner wasn’t too bad. I mean, no one died, so I consider that a win. The food was edible, and Lilith had some O blood in the fridge that she served, chilled. It wasn’t the shake that I normally get from JP, but it did the trick. Toward the end of dinner, one hovering plate crashed into a gravy boat and the Arte Demons rushed to clean up the mess on the table. Unfortunately, that just caused food to go flying and half of it landed in Rez’s lap. Thankfully, Levi swooped in and saved the night by casting a spell to clean up her and the table.

Too bad our night hasn’t ended there, though. I was hoping to get Rez alone once more, but Lilith—oops, I mean Mom—wants a nightcap in the Parlor so we can catch up on things. Honestly, by the way we are all dragging, we’ll probably pass out during this nightcap since Moni will never share her coffee. I need to find out why they don’t have coffee beans. Even the most depraved should have coffee around. Maybe I’ll ask tomorrow at breakfast. I know I’m feeling my energy drop, but I need to know how the hell Mom went from a mother figure to our real mother and how she now has this proper, smothering persona that’s giving me the heebie-jeebies. I guess it’s better than the dark feeling I’ve had in the past, which I find weird.

Speaking of which, I haven’t felt my entity since the cave when he took over for a minute, not even an inkling of him. I feel lighter, happier, as if there’s no darkness residing in me. That can only be a good thing, right?

As we shuffle in, there appears to be extra lounge seats and footstools placed around.

Rez gives the fireplace the side eye before sitting in the furthest seat away from it, which places her on the sofa. I put on a burst of speed, knocking Ryker out of the way and sliding in next to her. She rewards me with a giggle.

“Smooth,” she says, leaning into me.

“I know,” I agree, wrapping my arm around her shoulder and kissing her forehead.

Slurping noises pierce through everyone moving around, and I eyeball Moni. She frowns as she looks under the lid of her cup before shoving it behind her. Within seconds, she pulls another Sparks cup out of thin air and she starts drinking.

“Is that a new one?” Rez whispers, and Moni pauses long enough to nod. “How many do you have left?”

“Only four more. I don’t know how I’m going to function tonight to be honest,” she replies before going back to her drink.

Rez melts against me, and I take a moment to check on her.

“Are you okay?” I ask as she hides a yawn behind her hand.

“Yep. It’s just been a long day,” she admits before gracing me with a smile.

Ryker grumbles as he sits down between Rez’s legs, then shoots me a dirty look. All I can do in response is smile and stick out my tongue. Rez shifts and pinches my tongue between her thumb and pointer finger before whispering in my ear.

“You know, if you keep showing off the goods to everyone, I won’t feel special.” Rez pouts when I pull my tongue free and smirk at her.

“Whenever you want to sit on my face, spitfire, my tongue is all yours.”

She bites her bottom lip as her eyes turn molten. Aww yeah. I still got it. Ryker leans his head further back, opening Rez’s legs wider and inhales deeply.

“So intoxicating, I swear. I’m addicted,” he mumbles, but it’s enough to make Rez turn bright red.

“Oh my God. Your mom is right there,” she shrieks, pushing Ryker’s head away from her crotch, and jumps when the fireplace shoots up with brimstone.

“You know, I might just have to charge you for the damage you’re doing to my abode,” Lucifer says in a bored tone.

I swing my head in his direction and find him over at the bar while Murmur pours drinks.
