Sierra insisted on me wearing a dress and heels, and since I wasn’t used to it, I almost fell twice during the day. Thank God, I was seated while signing the books, otherwise I would’ve ended up with a broken ankle.

My hands trembled as I approached the dark alley.

I couldn’t see anything, but there was nothing to be seen.

I took a couple of steps forward, walking into the darkness. My entire body was covered in goosebumps, my heart ringing in my ears. Briefly, my eyes closed. I prayed to everything I possibly could that it was him and that it wasn’t just in my head.

And then I saw it.

And I ignored the aching in my feet, running towards it, rushing to have it in my hands as soon as possible.

A little box was in front of a wall, with a bouquet of bright, red roses. And somewhere in the middle of a dozen roses was a black envelope. With a small red heart on it.

He was here.

I wasn’t seeing things.

The happiness that consumed me made me start crying as I crouched down, holding all three items in my hands, hugging them closely to my chest.

The past two years were blissful, yet the most painful time for me.

Micah was never caught. They lost him that day when I was found and hadn’t spotted him since. There was a lot of discussion whether he’d be back to finish the job, and kill me, but that was all I wished for.

All I wanted was to have him back.

And this gift was him telling me that he’d be back for me.

Micah was back.
