She is too smart to do that. She would run away as fast as she could. She would kiss New York goodbye.

Where did you run to?

If she was sure that I thought she was gone, then she would wander the city thinking it was safe. She would try to blend into the crowds even though there was no way for a woman as beautiful as her to disappear.

Hide all you want, my angel. I’m going to spend the rest of my days hunting you down just to kill you for the way you fucked me over.

“There is still the Cole issue that we will have to deal with sooner or later,” Leon says as my car comes to a red light.

I sigh and shift in my seat, trying to get comfortable enough to convince my brother that Cole’s family is nothing to worry about. Again.

As much as I care for my brother, there are times that he forgets the power he holds in the city. He may be an intelligent man who is good at managing his business, but there is something about Cole’s family that sets him on edge.

“Sergey, you need to listen to me this time. You may have killed Cole—”

“I did kill Cole. Ripped his limbs from his body and fed them to the pigs, inch by fucking inch, if you want to be specific. Although, that doesn’t include the halves of his cock that I mailed to his wife and his mistress.”

Leon scoffs. “Don’t you think that is the problem? Anyone in their right mind would be enraged at parts of their family members being delivered in boxes.”

“Cole crossed a line he shouldn’t have.”

“You cross lines like it’s your damn job.” Leon sighs as someone says something to him in the background of the call. “Sergey, you need to be cautious of Cole’s family. They are as ruthless as you are.”

“Almost. Which means that I still have the upper hand.” I smirk and look out the window, watching skyscrapers blur by.

Leon exhales. He sounds as if he’s ready to come through the phone and wring my neck.

I would like to see him try. It wouldn’t be like the fights we had when we were younger. I wouldn’t let him win just to boost his confidence.

“Leon, let me ask you this.” I pause, grinning at his irritated huff. “Who is the older brother here?”

“You are,” he says through what sounds like gritted teeth.

“And being that I am the older brother, I would think that I know a little more about the way the world works than you do. That would imply that if Cole’s family were a true concern, they would already be taken care of.”

Leon grunts. “You are being obnoxious. You know that there is a problem. You are just too stubborn to admit it. You would prefer to believe that these people are no threat to you even though Cole’s older brother is Ryan?”

“Ryan the Ripper?” I snort and shake my head. “There is no way that a sniveling piece of shit like Cole is connected to The Ripper.”

“Well, he is.” Leon’s voice is filled with exasperation. “Are you ready to listen to me about the threat yet?”

“Watch your tone, boy.”

Leon is quiet for a moment. “Fine. The Ripper is Cole’s brother. The man is one of the biggest threats in our world and he found out that you’re the one who killed his brother. He will retaliate against the Bratva for this.”

Denis glances at me in the mirror, worry beaming in his eyes. I nod at him to keep going. We have a meeting that we need to get to and there is no way that I’m going to miss it.

News about The Ripper be damned.

“Leon, there is no need to worry about The Ripper until he comes after us. It is best to let sleeping dogs lie where they will. When he wakes up from his slumber, I will know, and I will plan.”

Leon grumbles something I don’t catch. “Fine, boss. I will let the other men know to keep their ears to the ground and will let you know if anything comes up.”

“See that you do.”

I end the call, about to tuck my phone back in my pocket when it lights up with a message.

As I unlock the phone, the corner of my mouth stretches.
