“Help yourself,” he says.

“What’s yours is mine. Them’s the rules when you put a ring on it.”

He puts his notes down and starts carding his fingers through my hair.

“I don’t remember that part from the vows.”

“It was right between the testicles and dementia, so I don’t blame you for being distracted.”

He laughs softly.

“How was your day?” he asks.

“It was… really good. Just a really good day.”

His smile is beaming. And that smile settles deep inside me. I have somebody who loves me so much that he looks exhilarated just because I’m happy.

He picks up his notes again and starts to read, fingers still combing through my hair. It’s quiet in the room, and I’m in no hurry to move anywhere or do anything.

It’s so calm.

Glorious in a quiet way.

“I’m going to have a life with you,” I say, looking up at him.

He meets my gaze, his expression impossibly soft—vulnerable in a way I know he only lets himself be around me.

“Yeah?” he asks. And when he says it? He doesn’t look painfully hopeful anymore. He looks peaceful. Like I’m telling him something he already knows. Like it’s obvious.

It really is that simple.

He’s my everything.

And we’re going to have a life.

Together.

The End
