I roll my eyes. “I bet you say that to all the girls.”

“No, not usually. Now, what do you want to drink?”

I shrug. “Surprise me.”

The guy laughs, a big guffaw. “Oh, you’re going to regret that.” He puts his fingers in his mouth and whistles so loud the bartender whips around at once.

I duck my face away so he doesn’t recognize me right off.

With a point in my direction, the man says, “Sex on the Beach!”

“Oh my god, you’re terrible.”

With a playful waggle of his eyebrows, he brings his whisky to his lips. “You asked for it.”

My drink comes, and the two of us continue shooting the shit, a veiled flirtation in every comment.

This guy ishot. Smoking hot. Not Edwin hot, but right now, I don’t care.

He seems like a player, which is just fine. I’m not looking for a husband here tonight. Just something to distract me. “This drink is going to give me a headache, and it’s going to be your fault.”

The guy slides his hand onto my waist and pulls his lips toward my ear. “Maybe I can take your mind off the headache with something else, then, hm?”

“Ehem.”

Fuck. My eyes shut. What ishedoing here?

Edwin’s voice is deep and too close. “Seth, I didn’t know you were back from your trip.”

The guy I’ve been flirting with turns to face Edwin, however, I can’t bring myself to do it.

It’s not like I was doing something I shouldn’t. Just because I feel some weird attachment to him doesn’t meanwe are in a relationship or that we can’t be with other people. Which he just was.

So what if I was jealous? Doesn’t mean he feels the same.

But at the same time, I don’t want him to feel like I’ve forgotten about him. Because then maybe he’ll feel even more inclined to forget about me.

Wait a second…

Seth…

Seth?

No way. This is Bridget’s stepbrother, Seth Vance. Now, this is fucking rich.

The one time I try and have a little fun, I end up stepping into another situation that’s off-limits.

“Yep, got back just last night. Thought I’d see how things are around here.” Seth looks in my direction. “They’re looking good.”

“Yes, I see you’ve met our new operations manager, Sonia Hill.”

Seth’s suave expression melts into a crinkly frown. “That’show I know you. You were at the masquerade, weren’t you? You were dancing with–” Seth stops and looks at Edwin. “Ah…”

“Fucking great,” I mutter to myself, putting my hand over my eyes and leaning on the bar.

“You mind if I talk with Sonia privately for a moment, Seth?”

What now? It’s not like I’m the only one who is fooling around with customers. Or those I thought were customers. Yeesh.
