With a quick glance at the clock on the bedside table, I calculated whether I could afford to take a nap. If I didn’t do anything overly extravagant with my hair for the welcome dinner tonight, I could probably rest for an hour.

After setting the alarm on my phone, I slipped under the fluffy duvet, not bothering to change out of my sundress. If I only had an hour, I didn’t want to waste any time by searching for a pair of pajamas in my luggage.

Unfortunately, the instant I closed my eyes, a knock ripped through the space. I groaned, but reluctantly crawled out of bed and checked the peephole, assuming it was either Liam or Melanie.

To my surprise, it was neither.

Instead, Gideon stood in the hallway, looking just as delicious as he did earlier in his jeans and button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up, revealing his toned forearms.

“Imogene,” he greeted in a smooth, even tone when I opened the door.

“Gideon.”

His gaze flickered down to the exposed cleavage of my sundress before returning to meet my eyes.

“I was hoping we could continue our conversation from earlier. I feel like we weren’t quite finished yet. At leastIwasn’t.”

A devious smile spread across his face, sending thousands of butterflies fluttering in my stomach. All it took was one look from Gideon Saint and I was putty in his hands.

“Of course.” I pulled the door wide. “Won’t you come in?”

“Thank you.”

As I followed him into my room, his scent filled the space, bringing back memories of burying my face in the crook of his neck as he thrust inside of me. My heart raced at the thought of his hands on my body, his lips bruising mine.

This wasn’t the first time I’d been alone with him. But it felt more intimate than any of our previous encounters, the atmosphere between us even more charged, considering I now knew how he kissed. How he tasted. How he moved.

How willing he was to push me to the edge of darkness, then pull me back to the light.

“Would you like something to drink?” I moved toward the wet bar and cracked open a bottle of whiskey, needing something to settle my nerves.

“No, thank you.” He blew out a small laugh. “If I’ve learned anything over the past few weeks, it’s that I need to keep my wits about me when I’m with you.”

I poured some whiskey over ice and swallowed a large gulp before setting the glass onto the surface. “You do?”

With a deliberate nod, he stalked toward me with calculated strides, an animal hunting his prey.

Despite the way I ran from him the last time, I couldn’t deny there was still a part of me thatwantedhim to hunt me. Wanted him to claim me as his.

Wanted him to own me.

“You mentioned you’ve had a change of heart.” His voice was low. Deep. Husky.

“Y-yes.” I squared my shoulders, fighting to hang on to what little control I had left. “I guess. I?—”

“You guess?” he interjected. “I’d prefer something a bit more…firm, if you don’t mind. Either you’ve had a change of heart or you haven’t. If it’s the latter, I’ll leave and we can go back to denying ourselves what I can only classify as the most amazing sex I’ve ever had.”

I inhaled sharply, his admission rendering me momentarily speechless.Ithought it was pretty mind blowing, but I hadn’t been having much sex these days. I figured Gideon had a long line of women hoping to sleep with him, especially with that mysterious billionaire vibe he gave off. And I was certain they were probably even more adventurous than me.

“It was the best sex you’ve ever had?”

“Without a fucking doubt, Imogene.” He brought his hand up to my cheek.

I closed my eyes, basking in his warmth. It had only been a week since I’d last experienced his touch, but I physically ached for him.

“You brought out something I thought died years ago.”

“You did, too. And that’s what scared me. Not what we did.” I laughed slightly, trying to ease the tension. “I liked what we did. Hell, Ilovedwhat we did.”
