“I know that you’re an asshole. How about that?”

Someone snorted behind him, and he knew it was Autumn.

Smith glowered at Marcus. “You have—”

“Yeah, yeah. I know. Blah, blah. I was dealing with the FBI before you got out of Quantico, Smith. There will be no reason for me to contact you about Tamilya. The only life she would put in danger is her own.”

And that was what was freaking him out. If the bomber had zeroed in on Tamilya, she might not play reckless with the public’s safety, but Marcus knew she would sacrifice herself to get the bastard behind this.

“Hammer, are you coming along?” Smith asked.

“Naw, you go ahead. I have some meetings to attend.”

Smith nodded and walked away.

“You’re a liar,” Autumn said. “And not even a good one at that.”

“Whatever do you mean, Bradford?” he asked. Then he turned to Marcus. “You saw it, and she handled it fine, but I think it’s been one long day for her.”

Marcus nodded and stepped around him to go into interrogation. He hit the speaker button and tossed a look in their direction before stepping into the room and shutting the door behind him.

Tamilya started at the sound and turned. She smiled and relaxed when she saw him. “Hey.”

“Hey, yourself. Ready?”

She nodded. “Although…”

“Don’t even think about going to your parents’ home.”

She frowned. “Of course not. I wouldn’t put them at any more risk. I was thinking maybe it would be best to stay here.”

He blinked. “Here? At TFH?”

“Yeah. How much safer can I get than here?”

What she said made sense. TFH could be a target, but it wouldn’t be easy now with the added security. When he didn’t say anything, she continued.

“There’s showers, and I know they have some decent cots. We would just have to go back to your apartment. Although,” she said eyeing me. “I’m not sure you could fit on any cot they have here.”

He felt his heart settled at the comment. She wasn’t tossing him away. Instead, she was looking for both of them to be here at headquarters. It would make it difficult to seduce her, but she would be safe.

“I bet I can manage,” he said.

“Good, then we can go to the apartment and get our stuff.”

He nodded. She stood and he followed her out of the room, too relieved to complain that being at TFH would make having sex almost impossible.Almostwas the key word. When they stepped into the hallway, TJ was frowning.

“What now?” Tamilya asked. “Damn, that sounded whiney. Sorry. What’s up?”

He shook his head. “I just got off the phone with one of my coworkers.”

“Not another bomb?” Tamilya asked.

TJ shook his head. “Addie March is on her way to Hawaii.”

ChapterFifteen

Later that night—or was it the morning?— Tamilya pulled a t-shirt over her head and then grabbed her sleep shorts. She was still blindsided by the news of Addie showing up at TFH. It was enough that she had to deal with someone taunting her, but to have Addie there…it would bring up too many emotions. And why hadn’t she told Tamilya? Addie didn’t really owe her. All right, shedidowe her. That woman let Tamilya take the hit on her career rather than protecting her. Del had made it clear that no one would do that to her here. She’d been at TFH less than a year, but she trusted them more than anyone at the FBI. Now she was going to have to handle her former boss popping in.
