Tamilya started pacing again. “You should just let me be then.”

No matter what he said, she knew Marcus was hurt because of her. She wasn’t to blame for that crazy bitch and her plot. But the fact that Addie had focused on Tamilya had put him at risk. And all of her TFH Ohana too.

“Tamilya,” he said, trying to calm her again. It would do no good. Fear, recrimination, and a healthy dose of rage still bubbled beneath her surface. With a sigh, he scrubbed his hand over his face as Emma came blowing through the double doors, her face filled with worry and indignation. Tamilya stopped as she watched her rush over the Del. He hadn’t even been in danger, but Tamilya could see the terror Emma felt. It was the same feeling she had in the pit of her stomach when she heard the gun go off.

Emma launched herself at Del, who easily grabbed her. He whispered something to her that Tamilya couldn’t hear before he set Emma on the ground.

She looked at Tamilya. She knew that Emma wasn’t good with touching other people, and they didn’t know each other well. So when Tamilya found herself pulled into a hug, she blinked and looked at the boss. He was looking at the two of them with a warm smile.

Emma stepped back, but she kept her hands on Tamilya’s upper arms. She towered over Emma but the strength she saw comforted Tamilya. This was one woman she would not want to mess with.

“He will be all right. He’s a fighter.”

Tamilya sighed. “He lost a lot of blood.”

She tsked. “He’ll make it.”

Tamilya felt the backs of her eyes burning and had to blink back tears. She hadn’t been able to think since Marcus had pitched forward in a faint. The paramedics had reassured her over and over that he’d lost some blood, but he would be fine. She wouldn’t believe that he was okay until she saw him. She needed to see him. Then, she would know for sure.

“You need evidence,” Emma said nodding. “I understand. But I promise you, from what Del told me, the chances of him dying are very slim.”

Just hearing the wordschancesanddyinghad panic setting in again.

“Emma,” Del said, aggravation riding through his tone.

She released Tamilya and looked back at her husband. “What? I’m just giving her information. She will do better with facts. Oh, look, your parents and Cat are here.”

That’s when she noticed her mother rushing towards her, her father close behind. Cat took her time strolling in behind them.

“My baby,” her mother cried as she pulled her into a hug.

It was those tortured words from her mother, and the fear she saw in her father’s eyes, that caused her to finally break down. Tears filled her eyes as she shivered, the day’s events hitting her. Addie’s deception, the fact Marcus had risked his life for hers.

You know I love you?

Oh, God, why did she think she didn’t love him? That this was just for fun, that she could keep her heart uninvolved? It hadn’t worked last time. This time, it was so much worse. Why had she wasted their time together and not taken a chance? She could have lost it all today. Lost him.

Her mother let her go so that her father could hug her. Feeling his strong arms surround her gave her comfort, but she couldn’t stop crying. Not when she might have lost a chance to tell Marcus that she loved him. Still.

“Ms. Lowe,” someone called out. She turned to find a nurse standing at the entrance to the surgery area. She hurried forward.

“You’re Ms. Lowe?”

She nodded.

Relief softened the older woman’s features. “Good, because I wouldn’t want to go in there again without you.”

Tamilya blinked. “What?”

“Agent Floyd is throwing a fit. He’s refusing to have anything but a local until he sees you.”

“Does he need more than a local?”

“No, but he’s so agitated, it’s causing issues. We need you back there.”

She nodded and turned to look back at everyone who had gathered there. “I’ll be right back.”

Then she followed the nurse. They walked down a long hallway until stopping in front of a door. “You need to clean up.”
