“Clean up?”

“Yeah, you have blood—I’m assuming Agent Floyd’s—on your face. He might be upset if he sees it.”

She nodded and stepped into the bathroom. When she saw herself in the mirror, her eyes filled up again. She was trying not to get too excited. Until she saw him, she wouldn’t believe he was safe.

She hurried and cleaned up her face, then stepped back out of the bathroom.

“Good,” the nurse said with a smile. “This way, Ms. Lowe.”

“It’s actually Agent Lowe.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. He didn’t convey that when he told me to fucking go find Tamilya Lowe.”

Tamilya swallowed a laugh but it bubbled up into a sob.

“Oh, sweetie,” she said, stopping so she could wrap her arms around Tamilya. “Everything is going to be okay. He’s just being a pain the ass like all men are when they are hurting.”

She drew in a deep breath and nodded. “Thank you.”

“Now, he’s going to be stitched up, and it was a through and through. No bones involved. Minimal damage or he would be dead by now since he’s refusing to be stitched up. It’s just that he lost some blood and the stress of the situation sort of pushed his wound to be more critical.”

“But you’re going to put him out? You said a local would work.”

“On most people but with his emotional state right now, we’re worried about working on him like that. Doc wants to put him under so that we don’t have to deal with him.” She shook her head. “Men.”

As if to prove her point, Marcus bellowed, “I said no. Not until my Tamilya is here.”

His words were slurred, but they were the most beautiful sound in the world to her.

Drawing in another deep breath, she released it, and straightened her shoulders. With a nod to the nurse, she went into the room.

“Marcus Floyd, what the hell do you think you’re doing?”

He was laying on his back. His shirt was gone, and he had a blanket draped over him. The operating room was filled with people and equipment.

A doctor pulled down his face mask. “Please tell me you’re Tamilya.”

She nodded.

“Tamilya, woman, get over here.”

She almost moved over there, but she stopped herself.

“I think you need to check that tone, Floyd.”

He chuckled. “Yep, that’s her. Come here.Please.”

She did as he asked and went to his side. His eyes were barely opened.

“Drugged?” she asked the doctor.

He nodded. “We’re worried because he’s refused to go completely under. I know he’s a big guy but, we didn’t want to give him any more.”

She nodded, then leaned down so Marcus could see her.

“Marcus, you need to quit being a big baby and have the wound stitched up.”

“Not being a baby. They wouldn’t tell me anything.” It was almost adorable that he was pouting.
