Seraphina

The sunshine of anew day bleeds through the open hotel curtains and onto my pillow. My eyes flutter open in lazy, slow motion, and a soft smile spreads across my lips when I feel Antonio has his arms wrapped around me. This is how I want to wake up every morning, wrapped up in his body, laying close against his chest, feeling his warmth and care.

I snuggle closer to him and close my eyes again, wanting to savor this moment.

I need to show him what he means to me. I am incredibly skilled at isolating myself and keeping others at arm’s length, but with him - he deserves more of my attention and affection. I should open up and let him in. I should do something special for him.

Today, he said he met somewhere. Maybe I should follow him, and afterward, when the meeting is done, I can take him for lunch or somewhere nice. He would be surprised to leave the meeting and find me waiting for him. I think that would be nice.

He moans softly and pulls me closer, and my smile grows bigger.

“Good morning, my angel.”

“Good morning, sexy.” I roll over to face him and trail kisses over his warm skin, along his neck, and down across his collarbone. He grins, and the curve of his lips makes my heart flutter. He is so gorgeous. I could look at him all day and never tire of his face.

“What are you doing today, my love?” he asks without opening his eyes.

“I think I'llgo for a walk, maybe find a cute little coffee shop somewhere. I just want to sort out, take a quiet day, and enjoy some peace.”

“It sounds great. I have that meeting this morning, around ten. Then I'llbe back.”

He opens his eyes and looks at me, and my heart sings. His gaze is deep and intimate.

He leans down to kiss me and my body sparks to life at the touch of his lips.

“I had better go shower.” He grumbles.

“I’ll make coffee.” I sit up, stretching, slow and lazy.

“You look so cute when you wake up and your hair is all wild like that.”

“I know other ways to make my hair look all wild like this.” I giggle.

“Mm. Don’t tempt me. If I didn’t have this meeting, I would lie in bed all day with you.”

I toss the blankets off and slide my legs off the side of the bed, stretching again. I feel superb this morning. A little lighter, a little more like things will be ok. Antonio, taking the time to talk to me last night, helped me understand he wants to be here for me - and that I'm the one pushing him away and trying to struggle through everything alone. It isn’t necessary. I have someone who wants to support me and help me. I have to appreciate that; I just didn’t know how because I have never had someone this close to me in my life. But it was my choice, and I want to make different choices now.

I pad, barefoot, through to the kitchen. Antonio follows me and slips his arms around my waist, kissing the back of my neck.

“I'll be in the shower.”

“Your coffee will be ready when you get out.”

He disappears, and I miss his warmth already. I smile while I'm making the coffee. My heart bursting with happiness.

After coffee and a quick shower for myself, we are both dressed and ready to leave the hotel.

I slip my phone into my handbag. Antonio wraps his fingers around mine, and we catch the elevator down to the ground floor. On the street outside, he turns toward the left. The meeting spot is close to the hotel, so he is going to walk, and I pretend to turn toward the right, saying goodbye and telling him to have a good morning.

He kisses me, grins and tells me he will see me later.

I watch his perfect form walking away from me, then when I'm sure he is far enough along the road to not notice, I hurry after him, ducking low if he turns around, smiling like a naughty child, enjoying the fact that I'm going to surprise him.

I watch him going into a nearby restaurant, and sit down at a table with a group of men. They all look Italian. Some of them greet him in a friendly manner, and some look pissed. Maybe they are just not morning people. Maybe they are just asshole businessmen, who knows?

I sit in the coffee shop across the street and watch and wait, looking forward to when his meeting is over, and we can do something fun.
