Leon eyes the bed and turns back to me. “I have slept for a VERY long time, but if it’s alright with you, I’ll lay beside you and at least provide some body heat. I’ll stay awake and make sure nothing follows us back here. You should get some rest. We can talk more afterwards.”

I should probably argue, but I’m starting to sway from the exhaustion. Stupid delayed response to adrenaline.

I move for my bed, sliding under my blankets. Leon outright ignores the blanket I hold out for him and slides under the blankets with me.

Oh no. Oh no, no, no.

I immediately sit up to let him know that he’s supposed to have his own blankets because we just met and aren’t going to share. But just as I open my mouth to protest, he slips an arm around my waist and pulls me down beside him. I let out a squeak of surprise. He wraps his arm around me and nestles my body into his.

His body runs hot. I am trying to ignore how good this feels.

He explains before I have a chance to let him know this isn’t happening. “I’m not trying to be forward. You’re still freezing, and I can fix that in a matter of minutes. Let me at least make sure you’re well and not cold.”

I can feel him harden against my ass. I go very still so as not to give him any kind of friction. Leon must notice and adds, “Don’t worry, I won’t touch you until you ask me to.”

I choke on my own spit.

Yeah, that’s attractive.

“That’s a bit presumptuous,” I answer, trying to sound indignant.

This feels far too intimate. I should move. I don’t, though. The heat radiating through my body from his touch is too good to pass up. Besides, his hand stays over my sweater, resting on my waist – this is entirely platonic. His face is pressed against the back of my hair, and I think I feel him smile at my retort.

I’m just nodding off into an exhausted sleep when he whispers.

“Not presumptuous, Vivian. You were made for me. It’s destiny.”

Chapter 14

IWAKE UP A FEW HOURS LATER, IMMEDIATELY REMEMBERINGTHEevents of the night before.

Sure enough, I’m not alone in my bed. Leon is sitting up beside me. Thankfully, he’s now on top of the blankets.

As an added bonus to pretending my life is normal, his eyes are no longer glowing.

His hair is dry now, and the dark blonde locks fall in soft curls around his face. He looks perfectly relaxed, lounging on my bed, one leg crossed over the other, in my sweatpants.

I look back up to his face only to see he’s already noticed I’m awake. Our eyes meet, and once again, I’m hit with a wave of heat, igniting my body. The bond between us practically vibrates. Leon’s eyes darken.

If this bond is a two-way streak, then he’s certainly feeling the pull between us, too.

Immediately, I sit up and move to put some space between us. I repeat last night’s mantra.

Stranger – he’s a stranger.

Now isn’t the time to test out this newfound sexual attraction.

Leon’s eyes track my every movement like a predator eyeing his prey. I shouldn’t like it. But his gaze feels like a caress on my skin, and the energy passing between our bond hums. I feel warmth pooling between my legs, and Leon's eyes shift to that exact spot, like he knows exactly the reaction I’m having.

This isn’t going to work, both of us sitting so closely on the bed. There is no way I will get any answers if I sit here a minute longer.

I bolt out of bed.

“I’m going to shower,” I exclaim before running to my closet.

Leon grins lasciviously like he knows exactly what I’m up to.

The closet is next to his side of the bed, and I need to squeeze up close to him to get to it. I can feel his closeness. It’s like an aura that calls me closer.
