“You’ll be okay here?” I ask, grabbing my keys.

Leon emerges from the bedroom with his sword, strapping it to his back. I pause in front of him. “Leon – you can’t be thinking of coming with me. This is college, not a medieval castle.”

Leon gives me a small, amused smile before answering. “Vivian, I’m not sure you quite understand how this bond works, where you go. I go.”

I start to object when he continues. “Don’t worry, I can be unseen. Magic, remember? You’ll be able to hear me, though.”

I pause to consider his words but glance at the time again and agree.

“Alright, let’s go then,” I say, making my way to the door. I reach for it when I feel Leon’s hand on my wrist. His touch is light.

“A moment please, Vivian?” He asks mildly.

I spin to look at him, feeling impatient. I don’t like getting to class late and needing to walk in front of the entire class to get to a seat.

However, the expression on Leon’s face makes me forget my anxiety in an instant. His look is of pure possessive fire, and desire ignites in my veins as the bond between us flares to life.

I gasp at the heat just as his mouth settles on mine, claiming me.

The kiss is raw, his tongue sweeping into mine, electricity flowing between us. I’m passive for a moment before falling into the kiss, wrapping my arms around his neck and touching my tongue to his.

The pleasure is immediate. I moan, pressing my body into his, feeling the pull of our bond urging me to get closer.

Leon’s hands sweep over me from my back to my hips, with one finally settling on my ass and the other wrapping into my hair and pulling me even closer to him.

Leon takes full possession of my mouth, exploring me, owning me.

The kiss is consuming, and I want nothing more than to give in to it completely. My body grinds into Leon’s, begging for more. But a moment later, he releases me, hands coming to my shoulders to steady me as I stumble forward, dazed.

“What – why did you kiss me?” I ask, working on quieting my racing heartbeat.

Leon’s eyes burn into mine. “You’ve told me three times now that you want to break our bond and give back your key. I just want to ensure you know what you’ll be giving up if you do.”

I frown but see the time on my oven clock again. “That – shoot, I don’t have time for this right now. We need to go.” I open the front door, and when I turn to close it, Leon is no longer standing there.

“Leon?” I ask quietly, lest someone come out and think I’m talking to myself.

“Hmm?” He answers, right behind my ear.

My body shivers in response. Leon must notice because he trails a finger down the back of my neck.

“Cut it out.” I hiss as I lock the door.

“Alright, I’ll behave.” He replies, but not before adding in another far-too-close whisper, “for now.”

Chapter 15

ISOON FIND OUT THAT BEHAVING IS NOT LEON’S STRONG SUIT.ATleast not when it comes to me.

Our trip to the college starts innocently enough. We walk to campus in silence, each lost in our thoughts. I assume Leon is walking with me, even though I can’t see him.

My mind is racing, trying to make sense of everything that just happened.

He kissed me, and I kissed him back. I enjoyed the kiss, though ‘enjoyed’ is probably putting it mildly.

Still, I can’t shake the thought that something is off. Leon looked almost wild before he kissed me – like the idea of me breaking our bond was enough to push himover the edge.

How much of his reaction is due to the bond’s magic, urging us to stay together, and how much stems from his affection for me in my past life?
