I come undone, and my entire body feels as though it’s being shocked by waves of electric energy that course through me.

At my orgasm, Leon releases my neck before thrusting hard into me again, spilling his seed deep within me. I cling to him, and Leon moves to lightly stroke my clit, coaxing every aftershock from my body.

When I finally come down from my orgasm, Leon turns me so my ass is cradled against him and wraps his arms around me. He lays there holding me but doesn’t say a word, evidently very content with simply holding me now.

I think of what I should say, if anything.

I don’t know how to feel right now. I only feel the heat of him envelop me. I don’t want it to go away because I know that as soon as it does, the crushing emptiness clinging to the edges of my mind will take me.

Just as I drift off into sleep, Leon's hands tighten possessively around me, and I hear him whisper, “Mine.”

Chapter 17

IWAKE TO THE FEELING OF LEON LIGHTLY SHAKING MYSHOULDER.My eyes open and I immediately realize his hand is pressed against my mouth.

Still half asleep, I frown at his hand before looking up at him, confused.

Leon signals me to be quiet before removing his hand. He looks grave as he whispers. “We have company. Get dressed and stay away from the windows.”

Fear pierces through my sleep haze as I scramble out of bed and look for my leggings and top. They’re in a heap, crumpled on the floor. Throwing on my clothes, I see Leon is fully dressed in his fighting garb, his sword strapped to his back.

I remember Need’s warning that my signal to the Otherworld would be overheard by many. I probably should have thought to mentionthat to Leon.

Stupid.

I throw on a sweater and shoes, still mentally kicking myself. “Who is it?” I whisper.

“Forsaken,” Leon says as he stands in front of me, watching the windows without letting me become a target. “They’re Morgana’s spies, come to kill you. No doubt they’re hoping you haven’t found me yet. They will want to make sure you never do.”

I hear a scraping sound against my window as one of the creatures crawls across it.

They’re searching the building for me. I quickly jump to get closer to the wall with no windows.

“What do we do?” I ask. My heart is hammering, and my palms start to sweat. I take calming breaths to keep the fear paralysis at bay.

“Take off my collar, Vivian. I’ll make short work of them.” Leon orders as he turns towards me. He has a sinister smile like he’s eager to use his power against the creatures.

I balk at his demand. Despite his aversion to the title, Leon is a creature of infinite destructive power, capable of destroying entire civilizations with just a thought.

I’m rather fond of my small town and even more concerning, we’re currently standing in a small apartment surrounded by innocents. Infinite destructive power and apartments full of innocents can’t go well together.

Slowly, I shake my head at him.

Leon looks at me as if I’ve grown a second head.

Frowning now, he growls at me. “Vivian, this iswhywe are paired together, so that when a threat arises – I can defend us. This is a threat, and I need my power tomake sure you’re safe.” His hands fist and unfist in annoyance at his sides, and he thinks to add, “Please.”

“No, Leon,” I answer. My voice is shaking a bit – I don’t do conflict, but I’m not going to bend on this. “I won’t unleash you here. There are too many innocents in this town. This is an apartment complex. A Destroyer’s power around this many people? Not a good idea.”

Leon’s eyes widen at my defiance, and then immediately narrow. “This isn’t how the Destroyer-Keeper relationship works, Vivian. You obey me. I protect you. I can’t do that with the collar.Freeme.” He urges, approaching me and crowding me against the wall.

The alluring pull of his heat sweeps over me, but I ignore it, lifting my chin. In doing so, I see the shadows gathering outside my windows through the blinds. They’re accompanied by what sounds like claws on the outside walls.

Pulling my gaze back to Leon, I stand firm. “I won’t risk all the people that live here,” I answer, not backing down from the ancient and very powerful being I’ve just infuriated.

He won’t hurt me, will he? He wouldn’t – he loved me once.

“Then you are signing your death.” Leon spits back, hand reaching for his sword.
