A knock on the door jerked Suzy. She stood, her knees wobbling and her heart pounding. This was not good. The surgery should have taken longer. Did Stinker pass on?

She swallowed hard, wishing her mom was here.

“Maybe it’s good news,” Megan said, standing.

The door slightly opened as a vet tech poked her head inside the room. “Suzy, you have a visitor. Is it okay to send him in?”

Her nerves relaxed, and she took a deep breath and nodded. Who could it be? Perhaps her dad. He was in town, but surely, he wouldn’t leave work for something like this, would he? The door opened, and Daniel walked in.

“I came as soon as I could.” His eyes held hers. Compassion and love were inside them.

Megan walked to the door. “I need to call Brent. I’ll leave you two alone.” She closed the door behind her.

Suzy longed to run into his strong arms, but she couldn’t. He wasn’t hers.

“I’m sorry. I’ve been such a stupid fool. All my rules about not dating artists.” He walked to her. “I was afraid of getting hurt.”

“And?”

“I realize, hopefully not too late, you’re nothing like my mom. You are kind and caring, and obviously, you’re willing to putyour art on the back burner for others, even your cat.” He took her hands and lovingly gazed into her eyes. “I’m sorry.”

She rushed into his strong arms, and he pulled her close. More tears came. Who would have thought Daniel Wilson would turn out to be her prince charming?

She pulled back a little. “Thank you. I can’t imagine my life without you or Stinker.” Her voice wobbled.

“He’s going to make it,” he said, rubbing her back. “He needs to meet Snowball.”

“Your dog?”

“Yes, and lucky for us, she’s friendly and loves cats.”

She laughed. “That’s a good thing.”

“I love you, Suzy Alexandar.”

“I love you too.” She kissed him and pulled back. “I guess you’re stuck with me.”

“I love that idea. You’re my best headache ever.”

“What?”

“Never mind, kiss me.”

Their lips met in a delicious taste of passion. For a long moment, she forgot about everything in the world except him.

The vet gently put Stinker in Suzy’s arms. Although he looked drowsy, he passed the surgery with flying colors. She kissed his tiny head.

“See, I knew the little guy would be fine.” Daniel petted him softly. “He’s a fighter just like his mom.”

His phone buzzed. “Hey, Vivian. That’s great news. Thank you.”

“What did she say?” she asked, holding her breath.

“Everything is set. Tonight should be amazing,” he said.

“Are you going?”

He shook his head. “No, some things are more important than art. I need to take you both home.”

“That sounds divine,” she said with a coy smile.

Somehow, Suzy knew Daniel was hers forever. It's a good thing Snowball liked cats; apparently, Daniel wasn’t allergic. If he was, he didn’t say a word.

Life was going great, more than great, amazing. All her dreams were coming true.
