“I don’t think this will be the last time we see him,” he whispers.

He twines his hand with Penny’s, and Bishop follows. I look over Logan’s shoulder and see Heath and Caleb staring our way.

Caleb’s eyes are ashamed and don’t meet mine.

Heath’s eyes are contemplative. He notices my stare and smiles as he swipes the blood oozing from his other eye.

No, I don’t think we have seen the last of either of them.

“Las, I can walk,” I complain for the tenth time. Logan put me on Las’s lap so he could drive and Las hasn’t put me down since. He carried me into their house and up the stairs.

“No.” He waits in the hall in front of a door which Logan opens.

“I can walk,” I sigh.

“You can, but you won’t.” He sets me on the counter in the bathroom.

“Is this your room?” I ask. The bedroom was dark, and he moved too fast for me to focus on anything.

“Yes.” He turns and moves to the shower.

“Where did the guys go?” Logan disappeared after letting us in the room. I’m worried about Lucas.

“They are going to deal with Trevor.”

“Oh,” I gulp. “Do I want to know what they are going to do?”

“No.” He starts the water, running his hand through it until he is satisfied. Then he steps close, my knees brushing his stomach.

“I’m worried about Lucas,” I admit.

“Don’t be. He will be fine. We are worried about you,” he says softly.

“I’m fine.” I blink. He continues to stare into my eyes. “Las, I’m fine,” I say firmly.

“You are not,” he says, brushing my hair behind my ears.

“It barely hurts,” I lie. The pain has only gotten worse. “Why didn’t you go with the guys?”

“Because they know that I am more suited to taking care of you right now. They need to take some anger out on the man they took to Ryker’s dungeon.” He wets a wash rag in the sink and brings it to my cheek.

I flinch. “Dungeon?” I knew Ryker was ruthless. “You aren’t angry?”

“I am very angry, but I have more control over my actions. I’m going to channel it to a better place.” He holds the cold rag gently.

“I’m fine,” I repeat. Maybe if I say it enough, I will believe it.

“Baby girl,” he grumbles. “You are safe now. Let it out.”

I blink again and again, desperately trying to hold the tears back. “It startled me. They busted down the door.”

“I’m sure it did.” He pushes my knees apart and steps between them.

“I probably shouldn’t have fought, but I couldn’t go with them easily,” I defend.

“I understand,” he whispers.

“I was scared,” I admit. A tear escaped. “They were so big and strong. I couldn’t do much, but I did everything I could.”
