Tears formed in her eyes, and as much as I didn’t take pleasure in seeing her cry, I couldn’t deny how it made those crystal blues look even more beautiful than usual. “It means so much to hear you say that. All of it. I wasn’t too sure of this mate thing when we first learned of it, but I’m glad it’s you, Levi.”
Satisfaction moved through me at her words, and I couldn’t deny how my inner wolf felt just as appeased.
“I never knew what to expect for my future, but I can see it so clearly now,” I hummed, leaning forward as I gently caressed her cheek. My chest warmed as she leaned into the touch. “You’ve brought me the greatest gift I could ever ask for, and I hope you know how much that means to me. This baby will be surrounded by a village that treasures them completely, and I know they won’t go a single day without feeling spoiled rotten with love. I’ve always wanted to be a father, so thank you.”
“Motherhood always seemed daunting to me, but I won’t be alone, and knowing that makes it easier to bear,” she said, voice soft with appreciation and relief. “I can’t believe we’re going to have a baby.”
Despite knowing the baby wouldn’t be big enough to notice yet, I gently placed a hand on the beginning of her belly and hoped the little one would begin to recognize my touch over time.
My mind ran with thoughts of what was to come. Jane was growing life inside her. Eventually, her bump would be visible, and everyone would be able to see that my mate was pregnant. That I had claimed her so completely.
Regardless of the sex, I already had an heir on the way, and something about it instilled that satisfaction in me.
I was going to be a father, and it made everything else feel right.
“I can’t wait to meet them,” I said to her, raising my hand to lift her chin ever so slightly. “And I can’t wait for everyone to know my mate is with child.”
As she looked up at me, Jane’s eyes gleamed with a combination of relief and anticipation, as if wondering if I was prepared to make the next move.
All the while, I took her in, getting more riled up at the thought of seeing her swollen with my child. I couldn’t ignore how the tether tightened, and there was no mistaking just how much I wanted her.
Unable to resist any longer, I closed the space between us and pressed my lips to hers. Capturing them with my own, I savored the sensation, glad that I didn’t have to hold back.
Jane was immediately receptive as she returned it, leaning closer for more. Letting my hand move against her cheek, she melted into it and immediately sparked my excitement.
Even if we both initially doubted our bond, I wanted her to know I meant what I said. I intended to honor our connection in any way I could, not leaving her the opportunity to question whether the Goddess had been right.
She was my mate and the mother of my child, and even if I was new to it all, I wouldn’t trade any of it away.
I had more to fight for than ever before, and I was determined to prove myself to her every day moving forward.
Chapter 20 - Jane
I didn’t know what had gotten into him initially, but after chalking it up to alpha instincts, I didn’t have any complaints.
Before I knew it, I was on my back, pressed into the mattress with my thighs slightly elevated by his palms as his tongue swiped through my heat, delving deeper with his desperation.
Levi was more ravenous than ever, not leaving an inch of my body untouched. I hardly had the chance to register every flick and movement of his tongue, yet that overwhelming attention was more than enough for me.
Head tipped back, I let go of a soft moan, far too impressed by his skilled tongue and fingers as he made a mess of me. Needing to anchor myself, I reached for his brunette locks and ran my fingers through his hair. When he sucked on my clit, dousing me with even more pleasure, I whimpered and gripped his hair.
Appeased by the reflex, Levi chuckled into me deviously, driving me more insane. It seemed he knew exactly what to do.
Wrapping both arms around my thighs, he wasted no time making my legs shake as he worked me relentlessly. He left no room for breath or consideration, eager to have me whining for him. Using his fingers and tongue in tandem, he pushed me closer to that line of bliss, and he showed no sign of stopping.
Even as I clenched around his fingers and cried out for him as I writhed on the bed, he didn’t stop. Instead, he encouraged me closer and closer to that finish line, only satisfied once that coil within me broke and my first orgasm came crashing down around me.
Sucking in those deep breaths as I tried to calm down, I looked down at him, only to find Levi on his way back up again. He wiped his mouth and caged my body against the mattress, dipping down to capture my lips with his.

“That was amazing,” I murmured against his lower lip, pleasantly surprised by the turn of events, assuming that would be all.

A shiver ran down my back, curious what else he had in mind.
And yet, he didn’t make me wait to find out. Instead, he flipped us over so that I was on top, and he pulled me closer to his chest as he shuffled out of his relaxed joggers and boxers. When he was ready, he lowered me back down to straddle him.
