Page 32 of Knot so Sweet

It did something to her.

Her omega was out in full force. She crawled onto my lap and begged me to make her come. She wanted my knot. Pleaded and cried for me to take her.

I had to refuse her.

And god, that was hard.

But the plan is coming together.

I gather my courage as I step out of the car. The college parking lot is eerily quiet, exacerbating the sound of blood pulsing through my veins.

Because she finally agreed to the deal.

Not that I’ll tell the professor as much. I need to play the game to get what I want. And I know it has to be soon. Her godfather, who hasn’t seen her in years, found her, and that probably means her stepfather will only be a few steps behind.

The familiar knot in my stomach tightens, as it does whenever I remember we are still on the run. I have to push through the fear. I have to protect Ella at all costs because suddenly I have a nagging feeling that someone is watching me.

Or Ella.

I pull out my phone and dial her number, praying that she’ll pick up. It rings and rings, but there’s no answer.

“You’re being ridiculous,” I mutter to myself. Before this week, her not answering wouldn’t have worried me.

Now, as her past becomes her present, I have to play everything just right, and push away all thoughts that there is something wrong. I’ll speak to the Professor, and then I’ll call her later. Maybe then she’ll be ready to talk to me.

Out of nowhere, a voice cuts through the silence from behind me. “Are you here to speak to me?”

I turn around, startled by how silent he was as he crept behind me. Standing there, with a steely expression on his face, is Prof. Baldwin. His sharp eyes glare into mine, as if he’s trying to decipher the thoughts racing through my mind.

“Yes, Professor,” I reply, always professional in my approach. Yet I know my voice betrays a hint of nervousness. “I need to talk to you about Ella.”

He gives a slow nods, his gaze never wavering. “Follow me,” he says curtly, leading the way towards the building, along the corridor, and to his office.

Trepidation echoes in my gut as we enter.

The shelves are lined with books, and papers are neatly piled on his desk, and like always, the professor gestures for me to take a seat. But this time his face is inscrutable.

I do as he says but can’t help but fidget in my chair, my mind racing with uneasiness.

“What do you want to talk about?” he asks, tapping his fingertips together rhythmically as he waits.

“She wants me in the room with her,” I say. I know I haven’t discussed this with Ella, not yet. But I will. I’m hoping the omega in her will be open to the idea once she knows I’ll be there to make sure she stays safe.

“Why do you want to share her?” Professor asks.

I clear my throat and tell him what he needs to hear. “I don’t, but I know her heat is about to start.” I hesitate for a moment. “If I had my way, I’d live in a forest and keep her all to myself. But I know that’s not how it works with omegas.”

He lifts his chin in the air as he considers me. “How does it work?”

“When she goes through her heat, she’ll need a pack. She’ll be greedy. She’ll beg for more and more until I’m no longer capable and then...” I sigh. “She’ll need a heat clinic and I’ll have to share her with other alphas, anyway.”

“And this way?”

“I get to know who I’m sharing her with,” I say. “And she gets enough money to put her business plan into fruition.”

“You weren’t part of the deal. The deal was only for Ella to be shared between me and my pack mate.”

I swallow. “She’ll agree if I’m there, too. She might agree to more if you agree to let me into your pack. Omegas love packs.”
