He rips off his mask that had been covering his face, and I gasp.

“Yes, your friend made me a beautiful chicken salad wrap just after I popped a tracker into your purse. You really should be careful. You led me to him, just as I knew you would.”

He’s not here for me.

He drags Gabe’s head back. Only then do I see he’s not only tied to the chair but also has a rope around his neck. His captor glances at me. “I’ve been hunting Gabriel Tucker for years. He changed his surname… his job. He even wears gray colored contacts over his vibrant blue eyes.”

I stare at Gabe.

“Do you know what your alpha did?” He laughs. “Yeah … I’m sure you already know.”

Gabe groans as he pulls his head back and looks him directly in the eye before he mutters something to him.

Then he glares at me. “He killed my brother.” He grabs Gabe’s neck and hisses into his ear. “And I’m going to take what you love before I torture you.”

I don’t have the time to consider what this man is saying and while his mind is on the past and his eyes on Gabe; I push my hand in my pocket and grasp the grip of the gun, sliding my finger over the trigger.

He pushes Gabe’s head forward and stares at the ceiling as another gunshot fires over the air, this time outside the house.

He smiles. “You’ve just lost one of your alphas.”

“Or maybe you lost another of your pack,” I counter.

He nods and grins. “Mouthy. Typical omega.”

“What’s typical?” I ask.

He shrugs. “You’re not worth the aggravation.”

“That’s because you take, rather than find or wait for your omega.”

“Don’t fucking tell me—“

He pushes away from Gabe and strides toward me, suddenly remembering the window and turning back to the wall.

But while his back is turned, I point my gun at him.

Gabe stares at me, wide-eyed.

His captor turns.

His eyes round as he realizes his mistake.

“He’s not yours to kill. He still has too much to tell me. And if I want him gone at the end of that, I’ll kill him.”

Just squeeze, Ella.

He lifts his arm that holds his gun, but I press the trigger. “Not you.”

The metallic click of a gun goes off, followed by the thud as he hits the ground.

I killed a man.

I killed an alpha.

Shivers skate down my spine.

I stare at Gabe as he stares at me. “I told you to stay in the panic room.”
