“Where do you want to bite me?” I asked. “What’s easiest?” I watched in awe as a sigh left her, like I was bringing her relief.

There was a brief pause as she drew in another heavy breath and said, “Your wrist.”

I obeyed immediately, pulling back the sleeve of my shirt. I moved to her left, sure it was easier to offer her the soft skin of my inner wrist. I lifted my arm and, instead of biting me straight away, she extended her tongue, giving a small moan as she licked my skin.

I shuddered at the feel of her mouth. It was always me kissing her, licking her, loving her. Valko said we had to protect ourselves from her, but it was a lie. She loved us. She loved me. I could feel it in my soul. I knew she felt the same from the first time we were together.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“Preparing you, drawing your blood closer to the skin. I do not want to hurt you.” She sounded so vulnerable. She looked tiny in that curled-up position against the wall. I wanted to protect her forever. For all the twenty years of my life, I’d never felt this way. Nothing was more important to me than this bond.

“I don’t mind a little pain, princess. If it’s for you, I’ll endure anything.”

She gave a small smile before she opened her mouth. Her bite was slow, hesitant, and hot pain flared in my arm, shuddering up to my shoulder, tearing a gasp from my throat. It was nothing compared to the way she moaned as she tasted my blood.

Joining her, I moaned at how our connection deepened with the first sip.

I loved that her neck bobbed as she swallowed, and excitement raced through me as I reached for her.

I could sense her emotions, feel her joy at tasting me, at being close to me. She really was so hungry. As the Blood Princess, she must have had blood whenever she wanted, but we never offered her a single drop until Lucien got there first. How else would she become ours if we didn’t feed her?

She moaned again and another burst of pleasure pulsed through me. I decided then that I was going to feed her every single day. I didn’t care what Valko or Lucien said about her tricking us. She deserved my blood, the youngest, the freshest. My blood would be the one keeping her alive.

I rested my head against her shoulder as she drank, kissing her, encouraging her on. With every sip, she became mine. I wanted her to go deeper, bite me harder, but I didn’t know if I could ask for it. Whenever we made love to her, both Lucien and I would ask her questions, but she could never reply. I genuinely wanted to know if she liked what I was doing. Lucien just enjoying teasing her.

She withdrew her fangs and licked me again, making sure none of my blood escaped.

I usually healed pretty quickly. It was strange that my skin closed up while her tongue lapped at me. It made me feel like her mouth was always going to be part of my skin because she was helping me heal.

“I want to avoid taking too much.” She gave me a shy smile as she licked the blood from her lips.

“A-Are you sure? I have plenty more.”

She gave a soft laugh and I melted under her voice. “I’m sure, Fillian. That will sustain me. You must come and feed me in the future. Would you do that? For me?”

“Of-Of course!” I moved, sitting back in front of her. I wiped the blood from the corner of her lips, letting her suck the last of it from the tip of my thumb.

I trembled at how graceful she was. She really was my mate. She would be with me forever. Our love would last forever. I knew we’d have a beautiful life together. But I needed to bite her before Lucien and Valko had the chance.

Valko made sure we always shared everything. Food and tasks especially, but now her. I thought it was fine, but when I saw how Lucien was with her, how easily he took her and how she bent to him, I couldn’t stop the black feeling in the pit of my stomach that had bile rising in my throat.

She was part of the pack bond. Even if I wanted her to be mine, we were all connected to her. But Lucien had been taking things from me since I was a pup. Valko may be harsh, but he was always fair, whereas Lucien was just cruel.

If I was the one to claim her first, to show her I loved her, to bite her, then I would become the first person in her heart.

And, when we went travelling together, I’d keep her sustained. Our bond would be the strongest as we explored the old roads of the Cardinal Kingdom, the workshops of the Alabaster States, the endless bridges of the Emerald Isles, and the gorgeous Burnt Spires of the Cadmium Territories. We’d save the Cerulean Shores for last - I didn’t want her to see the siren she was engaged to until she was fully bonded to me.

I took in a deep breath, nerves bursting inside me. She must have heard, noticed how rapid my heartbeats had become, because she tilted her head.

“What’s wrong?”

I shifted my fingers, holding her face delicately in my hands, breathing in her scent, feeling how soft she was under me. “I love you, princess.” I said, trembling with heat and joy at finally being able to tell her.

“Fillian…” There was a quiver of pain and her head dropped, my fingers losing their grip as I released her. She slid back, the chains clinking as her shoulders rested against the wall. We’d never made love against a wall. She had always been lying down.

I panicked. “I mean - you don’t have to say anything!” I stammered. “I-I know it’s fast, but I can feel it. I can feel the love we share. I can feel you in my soul. Did you know that? It’s like you’ve been living there since I first laid eyes on you.”

She was silent. Her presence in the bond grew further away. I was so scared I’d said the wrong thing.
