“Your love just makes this worse.” Her voice was so quiet, filled with sadness.

I blinked in shock as I looked at her in the flickering orange light.

I couldn’t understand what she was talking about. How could she say that when she moaned in pleasure every time we made love? And, no matter where I went in the den, she was always there, her heart singing with mine, her soul calling to me.

“Why…Why would you say that?”

“Fillian, look at me,” she rasped, lifting her head, staring straight at me. I could feel her gaze so fiercely through the blindfold. “What do you see?”

I ran my eyes over her body. She was naked, as she was every time I saw her. I was already humming at the thought of touching her again. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, although I hadn’t seen many. Valko and Lucien said I wasn’t old enough to leave the forest yet.

Her breasts fit within my hands easily, so soft when my lips wrapped around her nipples and she moaned. It was like my tongue had been made to caress her pussy, and we merged so perfectly that she came every time I was inside her.

I loved her. She was everything I ever wanted. I was so sure the answer I gave here was the most important thing I’d ever say.

I swallowed before I answered. “I see the woman I love, the woman I want to spend my life with.” It was strange how I trembled as I told her the truth. She had all the power now. If she rejected me, my heart would break, and I would still love her.

“Fillian.” Her voice grew deeper, shaking, her jaw hard. Shadows flickered around us, and I edged back as her presence grew stronger. “Look at my hands, my wrists,” she growled, surprising me. Anger flickered from her like a snapping fire. “Look at where I am. I am chained to a wall, naked, and brought out every time one of you wants to fuck me.” She drew in a shuddering breath. “If you really loved me, you would let me go.”

Fear pulsed through me at the idea.

Let her go? Really? Out into the woods? She could be hurt. She might be taken and tortured by any of the creatures who lived here. Valko said we had to keep her here, that she was mine. My gift, a present he had collected to help free our people. The king had not responded to the demands yet, and I prayed he wouldn’t. Because I wanted to be with her forever.

If I freed her, I would lose her.

“I-I can’t do that.” It was my turn to be quiet. Guilty at her obvious anger, I was scared she would hate me, but I couldn’t let her go.

“Why wouldn’t you? Fillian, if you free me, I can help the wolves more than if you keep me trapped here. As queen, I can pass laws that prevent people from hunting you. Simply remove these shackles and free me.” She lifted her arms behind her back and the chains clinked again.

“But Valko said…”

“Fillian.”

I gasped as her voice captured me. I was suddenly drowning, being sucked under by a force I couldn’t describe. My love for her was pure and unwavering, with no doubt or hesitation anymore. It was so natural.

I’d do anything she asked. I would do anything to hear her speak again. I’d give her the whole world if I had to.

I loved her voice. I loved when she said my name. I didn’t care what Valko thought. Lucien had already taken her down here. Valko got to see her every day and be alone with her. Now, I would be her hero.

“Fillian, unlock the manacles. Free me from these chains.”

Her voice was exquisite. I wanted her to consume me. If I did what she said, she’d give me what I wanted. With her hands free, we could make love properly, be together for real. We could escape from here and find a house in another nation and grow old together, just me and her.

I stole two keys from Valko, one for the door, and the other must be for the manacles.

My breathing was heavy as I lifted them.

“That’s it, well done,” she coaxed me on, filling me with love. “This is what you want. You want to make me happy.”

“M-More than anything, princess,” I gasped.

“Then show me. Show me how you love me.”

I sighed in relief. She didn’t hate me after all. She just wanted me to prove my love to her.

I could do that. I would be her prince, her saviour, and she would always be with me.

My hand shook as she turned her body, pressed her right side into the wall, showing me her wrists. I bit my lip at the sight, her skin worn under the black iron. But my blood would heal her, and that was the important thing.
