Because they were all women who meant nothing to me.

Shelby is different.

And I’ve fucked everything up.

“Do you want to talk about it?”

Mom hovers in my doorway, watching me.

I’m irritated, and the last thing I want to do istalk about it.

“No.”

I want to slam the door and hide from the world, but Finlay won’t leave me alone, and Kevin won’t come near me.

It’s been a week since that night.

That night.

I’ve never known pleasure like I did that night with Kevin; more than that, I saw how attracted he is to me.

But he changed overnight and pushed me away, and I’ve had enough of it.

I’m done if he doesn’t want me afterthat night.

I’m looking forward to spending some time with Ivy and Griffin in the city, away from this town and everyone in it. I’ve never wanted to leave here, but I see the same faces and memories everywhere I go, and nothingchangesfor me.

I’m getting older, and I’m getting nowhere fast.

My phone pings for the millionth time, and I snatch it up, vowing that if it’s Finlay, I’m going to rip him a new asshole via text or voice note, but my breath stills in my chest when I see who it’s from.

Kevin: Ivy told me you’re going to see her this weekend. Take care of yourself, and don’t tell her what happened between us. Please.

White hot fury rips through me, my breath escaping its cage as I growl.

Don’t tell Ivy that we fucked, huh?

I won’t, and he shouldknowthat.

I don’t even bother replying because the sooner I get Kevin out of my head, the better.

“Is that Finlay again?” Mom asks, glancing over her shoulder when a horn beeps. “Oh, Tommy is here.”

“Good,” I mutter, zipping my bag. “Let’s hit the road.”

The plan is for Tommy and Mom to drop me at Ivy’s before they head off for their mini-break, stopping back to pick me up a week later.

At least Ivy won’t be questioning me like Mom insists on doing. Ever since that morning when she picked me up from Kevin’s, she’s not let up.

She must know that we hooked up, but she’s been wise enough not to say as much.

I’ll be happy if I never hear from him again.

Tommy grins at me and takes my bag with ease, popping it into the trunk. He glances at Mom before nodding at me.
