I start the engine, impatient to get going.

I’ve got a granddaughter.

Euphoria fills my veins, and there’s no getting rid of the smile on my face.

“Bring my best friend, won’t you?”

I drop my head onto my steering wheel, wondering when life became so fucking good.

“Yeah,” I choke out. “I fucking love you.”

“I fucking love you too.” Ivy laughs when I groan.

“Language, Ivy.”

“Whatever, old man. See you soon.”

I chuckle as I hang up, making my way back to my house on autopilot.

There’s no sign of my woman when I pull on the drive, but I soon find her in the kitchen, poring over a recipe.

She’s wearing tiny shorts and a top that ties beneath her breasts, swinging her hips to a song on the radio.

I pause to admire her for a beat but then clear my throat, interrupting her.

“Kevin!” Shelby stares at me for a second before running over and jumping into my arms. “Oh my God, what are you doing here?!”

She kisses my face all over before reaching my lips, and as usual, shit gets out of control between us.

“Wait,” I say, trying to ignore how turned on I am right now. “Ivy called.”

Shelby’s eyes go from lustful to concerned in a matter of seconds.

God, I love her.

“Is everything okay? Is it Mom?”

Pauline has been discharged recently and has insisted on staying in the city. Ivy and Griffin had offered to keep an eye on her, and of course, Shelby would think the worst.

I stroke her cheek reassuringly.

“Everything isgood,baby. Ivy had a little girl.”

My eyes sting again at the thought of my baby having a baby, especially with my best friend, the most decent guy I’ve ever met.

Shelby claps her hands to her mouth as I steady her on her feet, chuckling at her reaction.

“She did?!”

“Lauren Mason,” I say, puffing my chest out. “She’s perfect, and everything went well.”

“Oh my God! I need to see her!” Shelby stares down at her outfit before waving her hands in the air. “Wait, can we go together? Would she suspect anything? I can get the train….”

I take her hands in mine and kiss them lightly before meeting her wide eyes.
