Noah has about a foot on me, and I’m dwarfed by his frame towering over mine. The smell of his cologne swirls around me, and I can feel his breath on the back of my neck.

I hear him take a deep breath before he pulls back. Turning back around, I see him staring at the floor, gripping the counter with white knuckles.

His tie is gone, and with the top few buttons undone, I can see a glimpse of Noah’s muscular chest dusted in dark hair. There’s no reason for a real estate developer to look as good as he does, and again I wonder what’s hiding under that button-down.

This is the part where you say good night, Olivia. You’re done for the day. There’s no reason to hang around.

“So, you still have work to do tonight?”

Noah looks up at me through his lashes. “Yes. A bunch of stuff for this Hawaii deal I’m working on isn’t right. Materials have been late, and there’s a problem with the building codes. I have a lot to do.”

His tone is flat like he’s just going through the motion of speaking the words, not really feeling them.

“I’m sorry. That’s rough. Having work be an issue while you’re dealing with this other stuff must be hard.”

Noah’s gaze softens, and he nods while he rolls his eyes.

“Understatement, but thanks.”

“Well, I’d hate to keep you from it any longer. I’ll just be going.”

I push off the counter, slip on my sneakers, and start for my bag, which I draped over a chair near the island.

Noah’s fingers are there when I reach for the strap, and I freeze. He wraps his hand around mine as I lift my purse, squeezing.

“You gonna add purse snatcher to your resume?”

What are you doing?

“Only with me a day, and you’re already calling me a thief? You’re certainly heading toward a warning, aren’t you?”

I turn and face him; our hands are still joined around my bag. Staring up at him, I narrow my eyes and grin.

“Maybe. Since Mr. Steele seems incapable of taking a joke. What are you going to do? Spank me?”

Holy hell, Olivia! Did you really just say that? No, no. You need to go.

Noah’s pupils dilate, and he tears the purse from my grip, throwing it to the counter. As he steps forward, I shuffle to the side and move back.

He just follows, walking me up against the fridge, where the cold metal chills me through my shirt. I barely notice, a fire already raging in my veins.

“Is that what you want, Ms. Francis? Do you need punishment for being such a brat?”

Noah’s eyes rake over me like hot coals, burning through the layer of fabric between us.

I should hate it. I should call him out and leave.

But I don’t want that.

I want this. I want to drive him wild and reap the consequences. Or should I say rewards?

The excitement that rumbles through me is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced, and I’m completely intoxicated by it. The exhilaration of bringing Noah to the edge goes straight to my core.

Yup. This is the hottest thing in the fucking universe.

“You just don’t like being wrong, do you? Knowing I was right, that I can handle any challenge you throw at me.”

I jut my chin out, raising my eyebrows at him and smirking.
