I blink. What is that supposed to mean?

“Excuse me?”

“You need sleep, too, Noah. Burning the candle at both ends every night is a surefire way to burn yourself out.”

Olivia cocks a grin as she crosses her arms over her chest.

“There’s a lot to be done. Hopefully—” I consider the meetings with my divorce lawyer “—it’ll be better soon.”

“Well, maybe we’ll try working on that tonight. You’ll be able to spend more time with Elijah when you get home because you’ll have me helping out.”

She’s confident, completely sure that she’ll be able to handle wrangling Elijah, managing the house, and running the errands I never have time for.

I quirk a brow at her. “We’ll just have to see, won’t we.”

Olivia returns the gesture, standing straighter. “Indeed.”

The air goes still and silent, crackling with energy as we eye each other, a mental battle of chicken. Neither of us breaks, and then I’m moving closer to her, where she’s leaning on the edge of my desk.

An undeniable part of me wants to see how far I can push her, how far she’ll bend before breaking. Olivia doesn’t back down easily, and I like it—more than I should.

My heartbeat pounds in my ears. I’m so close to her, too close. Still, I don’t back away, frozen in place and held there by the way Olivia’s round curves create a delicious hourglass.

Tension solidifies in the air, and I’m drowning in it. I need to leave this room. Hell, getting out of the house would be even better.

I don’t.

Instead, I plant my hands on either side of Olivia on the desk, trapping her between my arms as I stare at her pouty pink lips. She uncrosses her arms, and her breath hitches.

It goes straight to my cock.

“Aren’t you running late? I’d hate to mess up your schedule.”

Olivia’s voice is quiet, a breathy whisper that barely cuts through the air, and I don’t register her words. I’m too busy noticing how her gaze has fallen to my mouth, how hers is slightly parted, and the flush creeping up behind her alabaster skin.

“Dad!”

Elijah’s shout fires down the hallway and shocks me out of my lust-filled haze. I stand up straight, quickly moving to my open office door.

“Yes, Elijah. What is it?”

“Your phone is ringing! And shouldn’t you be leaving?”

I shake my head. What the fuck just happened?

“Yes!” Turning back to Olivia, I gesture for us to leave the room. “I’ll see you later tonight. If there are any issues with Elijah or the house, call right away.”

“Of course.” Olivia offers a single nod and quickly slips past me to exit.

I catch up after a moment, the pound of my pulse receding, and find Elijah with my cell and briefcase.

“They hung up. Sorry.”

I put a hand on his shoulder, taking my stuff and smiling down at him. “It’s fine. I’ll deal with it in the car. I’ll see you tonight, okay?”

“Okay.”

His face scrunches up with familiar disapproval. We both know I’m usually at the office much later than I should be.
