And as a result, not only am I desperate for her skin on mine, but I also feel like I’ve just lost a close friend, and I’m running out of those.

Packing up to go home, I head to the garage, start up my car, and drive the twenty minutes back to the house.

* * *

When I get home, I take off my jacket and tie and check to see if the kitchen looks okay. Of course, the house is spotless, so I’m as ready as I’ll ever be to meet with Natasha.

Unfortunately, I’m left waiting for thirty minutes. I send her a text checking to see if I’m being stood up, which would actually be fine, but she assures me there was just traffic.

Sure. I don’t buy that for a second.

A few more texts of confirmation later, Natasha finally arrives, ringing my bell over and over until I answer.

For some reason, walking to the door feels like walking to the gallows, and my stomach churns.

I open the door wide for Natasha and see Henry tagging along behind her. I shouldn’t be surprised at this point, considering he’s perpetually her shadow, but I still grimace.

Facing the man your wife fucked behind your back on the regular is a unique type of torture when he also used to be one of your closest friends.

“Natasha.” I glare. “Henry. Come in.”

They file in, stepping not much farther than the foyer, and I fold my arms over my chest.

“Let’s take this to my office, shall we? Elijah may be home soon, and we’ll have more privacy.”

They follow me down the hall and into the office, where I close the doors behind us, and a heavy silence hangs until I finally speak.

“So, what was so important you just had to meet with me outside of court?”

Natasha is wearing a cream-colored businesslike jacket and skirt, but the snug fit and high hemline make it much less appropriate than a typical suit. She’s chewing gum, of course, and Henry stays behind her like an obedient dog.

“I wouldn’t be feeling so cocky if I were you. You know as well as I do that the judge is on my side. So let’s end this faster than continuing to drag things out.”

“After everything, now you want to agree to something? Took you long enough.”

She scowls at me, handing her purse off to Henry, before stepping forward and jabbing her finger in my chest.

“Half of all assets, including the business, and alimony payments every month in perpetuity that reflect half earnings as well.”

I can’t hold back the hard bite of laughter that cuts through me, shaking my head at her.

“You seriously expect me to give you half of everything? Forever? Not a chance.”

Gently removing her hand from my chest, I step back from her.

“I’m not done, Noah. I get Elijah. Full custody as the only available parent in this mix.”

Anger flares through my gut, and I struggle to keep my voice level.

“No. Need I remind you that you’re the one who got caught cheating? I have the security tape footage to prove it.”

“Too bad adultery wasn’t covered in a prenup.”

“No, Natasha.”

“Don’t be so quick there, lovey.” Natasha smiles, and it’s all malice and greed. “That judge will give it to me. So either agree now, or I’ll blast your company so hard with scandal you’ll be lucky if you still have your shirt after I’m done with you.”

I come forward, fists clenched. “You greedy bi—”
