He licked his lips and went along with the music as all eyes were glued to them at the center of the dance floor. “I love you, Lillian. I never thought I would be able to say that again, yet here I am. There truly are miracles in this world.”

The glow returned in her belly and bones. She pressed her cheek against his, then murmured into the shell of his ear as the song nearly reached its crescendo.

“I think you are the miracle, Oliver. I love you more than my art, more than any piece or painting I could ever conjure. You are my masterpiece.”

When he lifted his head, he was speechless. His eyes had glassed over, looking more magnificent than ever.

“Well, damn,” he said, his voice strained. “Nothing can top that.”

After the dance, the reception went deep into the night. They ate, they drank, they laughed, and Lillian learned more and more about the world she was going to be a part of. It felt less and less like a daydream and more like a fantastic, bewitching reality.

And she knew in her heart that as long as Oliver was by her side, it was never going to end.
