Ryan hands me a beer and we clink. "Here's to becoming real brothers someday."

Raven

It starts while I'm at the grocery store. Tim calls me, and I don't answer. He obviously can't take a hint. He continues to call and text but I just ignore him. Nothing he can say will make me go back to him. Betty asks why my phone is blowing up, and I lie because if I tell her, then she will tell my brother, and he will surely drive to Tim's house and do something stupid. So, I walk past her and go to the self checkout, wanting to hurry up and get home where I can put my phone up in my room and not worry about it.

Did he expect me to just race back to him with open arms like nothing happened? Even if I didn't have Adonis, that is not likely. Someone that can so easily throw away a decade of a relationship, isn't someone I want anything to do with romantically.

He continues relentlessly on the way home from the store, and Betty grabs my phone from the middle console.

"Seriously, who keeps calling?" she asks, looking at the screen. "Why is he calling you?"

"I haven't answered. He just won't stop. "

She answers the phone. "Look here you asshole, she wants nothing to do with you. Stop calling."

When she hangs up, and puts my phone back where it belongs, I laugh. "Dang... he will just keep calling though. Tell me why all the sudden when I'm happy he suddenly realizes what he walked away from? Not my issue or problem."

Ryan is outside waiting for us, to help unload the groceries, and Betty stares him down. "Douchebag Mcgee is calling your sister... won't fucking stop. Like literally at least ten times while we were shopping."

His chest bows up. "You want me to go talk to him? I will, in a heartbeat, just give me permission and he won't bother you ever again."

That's what I'm afraid of, and why I wish Betty didn't say anything. He doesn't like Tim at all, and I don't blame him.

My phone buzzes in my pocket again, creating a sensation that is all too familiar as it vibrates against my thigh. I sigh, already knowing who is calling before I even look at the caller ID. I hesitate for a moment, before finally reaching into my pocket and pulling out the device.

"Don't answer it," Ryan says.

"Maybe if I answer he'll stop calling."

"What do you want, Tim?" I answer with a tone that makes it clear I am not in the mood to talk.

"Raven, please, just hear me out.” Tim pleads desperately, his voice laced with a plea for mercy. "I love you, and I know I messed up, but I can't stand being without you. Please, please come back to me."

For a moment, my heart breaks but then I remember everything I endured being with him. So I remain firm.

"No, Tim, I can't do that."

I sigh deeply and put my hand on my forehead, feeling the tension.

Tim continues to plead saying how much he loves me and how sorry he is for all the crap he caused. I listen silently, feeling the pain of his words, before finally saying, "I've moved on and you should too."

Tim falls silent, and I can feel his disappointment through the phone.

"I understand.”

Just then, the doorbell rings, and Ryan opens the door, Adonis standing there looking as handsome as ever. He smiles at me, and for a moment I forget about Tim.

I hang up the phone and run up to him, giving him a peck on the cheek. "Great timing. What are you doing here?"

He cocks his head to Ryan. "He told me to come over for lunch."

Of course he did. I can't blame him for not trusting me. I spent many years under Tim's thumb and being manipulated, but not anymore.

"Well perfect. I was going to call you in a bit anyway."

Adonis treats me like a queen, and I can't imagine going back to Tim. He didn't appreciate anything I did for him, and being stuck at home by myself all the time, no thanks. Adonis makes it a point to talk to me everyday, even if he is busy, and I love that about him.
