“Lucia told your secret,” Gunner said from behind her.

With a frown, Hallie turned. He was standing between Kru and Landon, his head cocked, his bi-colored eyes soft on her.

“What secret?”

“Once upon a time,” Lucia said. “You spent the night with us because you were so sad that Gunner had left. You were lonely and you wanted to be around his people, and you drank one too many fruity beers, and you said that your dream was to live in a place like ten-ten someday. With Gunner.”

Hallie jerked her attention back to Gunner, then to the opening of the road, where a semitruck appeared.

Her mouth fell open as she saw what it was dragging.

“No,” she said softly, denying what she was seeing.

Lucas was driving the semi that was hauling the 1010 replica from Smashland Mobile Park to the clearing and the land she and Gunner were building a life on.

“Gunner wanted to buy it for you,” Jenna said softly.

Hallie squatted down, overwhelmed as she watched Lucas pull the cream-colored single-wide with the green shutters to the space Gunner had been leveling all morning. Now that part made sense. Cadence squatted down next to her and put her hand on her shoulder. “Once upon a time, I wrecked a man. I didn’t mean to, but I did it, and then you came along and put him back together. You deserve all the good things, Hallie.”

Jenna was squatted beside her, eyes rimmed with tears. “I thought we were going to be the ones to save him, but it was you.”

Hallie wiped her eyes and turned to Gunner. Lucia stood near him, smiling at her. “Do you want the list now, or later?” she asked Gunner.

“What list?” Gunner asked.

Lucia pulled a folded piece of paper out of her back pocket and offered it to Gunner. “The list of people who have applied to be in your new Crew.”

Gunner looked baffled, and shook his head slightly. “My new Crew?”

“Damon is expanding his mountains. You weren’t meant to be under Lucas and the Warlanders, and for a reason. You’re an Alpha, Gunner. I saw it months ago, and it was so hard not to tell you. You had to make the right combination of decisions to make it here, to this moment.” Lucia gestured to the replica of 1010 as Lucas eased it into place. “You’re supposed to make your own story.”

“Who all knows?” Gunner whispered, his eyes full.

“Damon. Kong. Bash…everyone,” Lucia said with a thick laugh.

“What if I mess it up?”

“You will,” Lucia assured him. She smiled and tipped her head toward Hallie. “And then you two will fix it.”

Gunner dragged his stunned attention to Hallie. There were a thousand uncertain thoughts in that handsome gaze, but when he parted his lips and uttered the words he wanted to, Hallie already knew what he would say.

“Stay one more day.”

She blew out a trembling breath and tried to control her emotions. “And then what?”

He nodded, and she knew they were in this.

They were all the way in.

Whatever happened from this moment on, they were in it together.

Damon Daye was growing his territory, and this was the beginning of the new Crew.

“And then we’ll see.”
