“Don’t, please..” He sat down once again, and I pushed my hair out of my face with my hand. “I… I’m afraid to tell him..” I admitted, closing my eyes.

Calvin thought for a moment before he spoke. “Why?” He asked, and I looked over at him, seeing a slightly different emotion in his eyes.

“I don’t know… I’m excited, but I feel panicked. I know he loves Delilah and me, but a baby just feels so sudden right now. Part of me knows he’ll be happy. The other part wonders if I’m even good enough for him..”

“Brielle, you do realize you’re thebestthing that has ever happened to Killian, correct?” He asked, and I smiled softly.

“..Sounds a bit odd coming from you..” I remarked, and he rolled his eyes.

“While I may not particularly favor him and… the other one, I knew from the moment I witnessed you and him together that he’d actually fallen for you. It was early and premature.. but you were the light in his eyes. A baby isn’t going to let that light go out. It’s just going to make it burn brighter..” He spoke, and I sighed as I processed his rather poetic advice. After a few moments went by, I stood up and walked to the door as I spoke.

“You’re invited.” Was all I said, and I smiled as I heard him squeal loudly before I stepped out of his office. Walking over to the living room, I watched as Calvin’s bodyguards walked my parents and Marissa out of the door and towards the black SUVs parked in the courtyard.

Marissa looked back one last time before leaving, and her eyes pierced mine. Even though the door was closed and they were out of sight, I knew this was only the beginning. Feeling someone wrap their arms around my waist from behind, I looked up to see Killian.

Leaning into his hold, I rubbed his hand. “Is it over?” I asked, and he placed a small kiss on my head.

“Almost..”

Eventually, we made it back to the penthouse, and I was sitting in the living room enjoying a cup of tea by the fireplace. Delilah lay asleep across my lap as I gently ran my hands through her hair. I heard slow footsteps coming into the living room, and I glanced over my shoulder to see Benjamin and a sleeping puppy in his arms. He gave me a look as he spoke.

“Look who I found in my quarters… on my bed.” I giggled softly as I looked down at Delilah.

“Apparently, they need some alone time… got into a little fight.”

“And what could’ve possibly happened?” He questioned, and I shrugged.

“She gave another dog attention earlier today, and he tried eating her shoe.” He winced.

“I see.. very serious.”

“Indeed it is..” I replied with a small smile on my face. He took a seat beside me as I bit my lip.

“Calvin knows.. he suggested I tell him…”

“Isn’t that the same thing I told you to do a week after you found out?” He asked, and I nodded my head reluctantly. Leaning my head on his shoulder, I sighed. “I guess I’m just still scared…”

“You do know you have no reason to be?” I nodded, and we sat in silence for a while. Eventually, he stood up and somehow managed to pick Delilah up from my lap so as to not wake up her puppy.

“I’ll go put these two to bed, and if you’re not already resting by the time I return, we can continue our conversation.” I nodded my head with a small smile. “Sounds like a plan..”

He went up the stairs, and I sat quietly for a bit once again as my thoughts clouded my mind. I didn’t notice someone else in the room until I felt the person pulling me over to them. I looked over to see who it was, but I already knew it was Killian by his touch. I placed a small kiss on his lips, and his eyes never left mine as he caressed my face.

“I love you…” I whispered, and he gave my lips another kiss.

“I love you..” He moved me over so I was now straddling his lap, and he pulled me to his chest as his head lay on my shoulder.

“What’s on your mind?” He asked me, and I sighed.

“A lot… These last few months have been possibly the worst and the best of my life. It all went by so fast, and I’m still unable to keep up.”

“I do hope I’m included in the best parts.” He uttered, and I giggled softly.

“You are..” We didn’t say anything for a moment, and eventually, I felt myself falling asleep in his warm embrace.

Sitting at my desk, I sighed. A few days have gone by, and things were returning to normal slowly but surely. Killian was a bit more busy than usual, and occasionally, I would see Valarie in and out of the building. I never knew her genuine purpose here. And no matter how much I didn’t want to admit it, I started feeling jealous.

It’s not just seeing the two of them together that bothers me. The mere fact that she’s in the building simply makes me feel somewhat indifferent. After finishing the last of my paperwork, my phone chimed, and I was reminded that my hospital appointment was scheduled for today. Thankfully, I’d asked Killian a few days ago if I could leave early today, and surprisingly, he agreed.
