I approached the counter and placed an order for my drink and food. After paying, I searched for an available seat but couldn’t find any. I felt disappointed as I didn’t want to eat in the car, and going back to the building to deal with Killian would leave me with no chance to eat peacefully. As I looked around, I almost gave up hope until I spotted an empty seat at the front of the store. On the other side of the table, a person, presumably a man, was sitting with a dark gray hoodie over his head, firmly holding a hot drink.

He looked somewhat approachable, but his dark exterior led me to think twice as I approached him. I stopped before him, and he didn’t even acknowledge me.

“.. Um.. Excuse me?” He flinched slightly and looked up at me for a second, but not high enough where I could see his face.

“Is this, uh, seat taken?” I questioned, and he didn’t say anything for a moment.

Eventually, he shook whatever the thoughts were in his head and responded. “… No, no… It’s all yours.”

I sat down and thanked him softly. When I had listened to him speak, his voice seemed somewhat familiar, but I couldn’t quite place it. I took a small sip of my vanilla latte, and he remained silent and motionless. The silence was a bit uncomfortable, but the awkwardness dissipated when he sipped his drink.

“Do I know you from somewhere?” I asked after some time, and he took another sip of his drink before answering.

“…We bumped into each other in the streets a few weeks ago.” I made an “O” shape with my mouth as I had a small flashback of the incident. Even then, I thought I recognized his voice slightly.

“Small world, huh? Never thought I’d see you again in this big city.” We fell silent once more, and when I checked my phone, I found that Killian had called me 20 times. Now, not only will I have to face him for hanging up, but I will also have to explain why I ignored his calls.

“You work for Killian Russel,” He stated slowly, and I wondered how he knew but recalled him seeing Killian with me the last time we’d bumped into each other.

I nodded my head. “Yeah, I do.” In response, he didn’t say anything.

“What do you do for a living?” I asked, and he shrugged.

“I’m here and there. I don’t have a job, but I have some income… My mind is overwhelmed with numerous memories and miseries.. Time in the army changed me as a person.” I nodded, and he looked silently out the window, his face hidden behind his hoodie.

Taking another sip of his drink, he nonchalantly spoke. “Your boss is hopping out of a car right now and making his way inside… He doesn’t look too happy from my perspective.” In a panic, I looked out the window quickly to see George standing by the open car door.

“Dang it, George,” I whispered, and I looked back to the man in front of me, but once again.. he was gone. I glanced around the shop momentarily when suddenly, my arm was grabbed, and I was yanked out of my seat. I let out a squeal and looked up to see Killian, who appeared enraged as he stared down at me. He dragged me out of the shop, and I noticed everyone trying their best not to look.

As we walked towards the car, I couldn’t help but think he would lash out at me for something. However, instead of getting into the car, he pushed me against the car door and held me there with his hands on my waist. I looked up at him and saw that he had closed his eyes, perhaps to control his anger. It was only then that I realized George was nowhere to be seen.

“Brielle.. Once again.. You have brought me to the very edge of my patience, and I am this close-” He held one hand up and made no space between his index finger and thumb. “-to snapping. Never in my life have I been hung up on, ignored, and defied all at once.”Well, there is a first time for everything, right? He stared me down with his eyes, and I gulped softly as a blush of embarrassment appeared on my face.

He shook his head, his hands tightening on my waist as he towered over me. “No. An ‘I’m innocent’ blush and a lip bite is not going to get you out of this one.”

“It was just coffee,” I whispered, feeling overwhelmed all of a sudden, and he held my jaw in his hand as he looked down to my lips and then back to my eyes.

“This was never just about coffee, Brielle.” He muttered, and I shuddered as his eyes lingered on my bottom lip while he ran his thumb over it softly. What was this even about? Communication? Control? Sex?

“I understand you’re hesitant to discuss what happened the other night, and I’m giving you time to process everything. But there’s no reason to run from me or the truth.” He argued, and I responded.

“You noticed,” I whispered, as I wasn’t exactly being discreet with how I wanted to avoid everything. He hummed, placing his hand on my lower back as he pulled me closer to him.

“I notice everything about you, darling.” He spoke, and I gulped softly as he leaned into my ear. “And the next time you make me chase after you like this, I truly hope you’re ready for the consequences.”

It was the following day, and since I had a little more time before going into the office, I decided to Facetime Madam A since she hadn’t stopped calling for the past two days.

“So, how is everything with you and Killy?” She asked, and I responded as I continued to comb through my hair. “Fine… fine, I guess.”

She narrowed her eyes at me as she spoke. “There’s something you’re not telling me… spill.” I sighed, looking at the phone to see how eager she was to know.

Blushing softly, I avoided eye contact as I spoke. “Well, I’m not exactly sure how to word it… I don’t even know if I’m allowed to share. But considering he didn’t make me sign an NDA…” I began, and she took a sip of her tea, holding the biggest grin on her face.

“One simple question,” She started, and I listened intently. “How much longer until I can have my grandbabies?” She smiled evilly, and I gasped as I lowered the volume immediately.

“Madam A!” I hissed, and she shrugged.

“What? You’re practically glowing, Brielle. Your face can barely stop blushing. You might as well have already been married with how you two act and coexist.” I shook my head as I pulled on a dress I’d bought in London and put on the diamond necklace Killian had gifted me. Getting back into the frame, she studied my outfit and nodded.
