“Hmmm… I’m definitely getting more grandbabies soon for sure..” She muttered, and I narrowed my eyes at her as I heard her door open and keys being set on a counter.

“They were out of hot sauce, so I had to go to the one downtown. Are you happy?” I heard Mr. Burkley say as he set a takeout bag on her lap. She looked up at him and smiled.

“Thank you, honey.” She gave him a small kiss, and my jaw dropped.

“I go to London for not even a week, and I come back to see this?!” I asked in shock, and Mr. Burkley shrugged.

“A lot can happen in a few days,” He acknowledged, looking at my outfit for a short while before nodding. “You’d be the first to know that fact.” He shrugged, and I gasped as Madam A simply sipped her tea.

“Told you, you’re glowing.” She shrugged, and I had half a mind to say something back when Delilah peaked her head in the door as she opened it. I picked her up and set her on my hip when she walked in.

“Hi, my little sugarplum! How are you, sweetie?” Madam A greeted, changing personas, and Delilah giggled.

“Good!”

“I hear someone has a birthday coming up! Is there anything you would like?” she asked, smiling, and Delilah thought for a bit.

“I don’t kno- OOH! Do you know the big bears that are bigger than Burky and his tummy?” Mr. Burkley shook his head in the background, and Madam A responded.

“I surely do.”

“I want one of those, and OHH!-” She continued her little ramble, and I shook my head as I let her down.

“Okay, baby, I think that’s enough. Why don’t you go read a little book or play with your toys.” She nodded her head and walked to the door as she spoke.

“Killy says it’s time for you to come downstairs.” She grinned happily, and I sighed as I nodded my head.

“You got all that right?” Madam A spoke, and Mr. Burkley shook his head.

“Every single penny and dime.” I rolled my eyes at them and said goodbye quickly as I grabbed my things and went downstairs. Killian was sitting on a bar stool near the kitchen. As I entered the room and walked towards the kitchen, he grabbed my waist, pulling me towards him. Looking up at him, I felt his hands caressing my hips.

“Good morning, Brielle.” He smirked.

“Good morning, Killian..” I said in response, and he eyed my outfit before looking back at me.

“I see you’ve gotten into your new wardrobe.” He muttered, and I bit my lip as I toyed with the diamond pendant on my neck.

“You like?” I asked, looking down at the comfortable, formfitting dress that cost an actual arm and a leg, and he hummed.

“You know I do, darling.” He admitted, pulling me closer as he leaned in slightly.

“Killian, I’m hungry,” I muttered, placing my hands on his shoulders to keep him at a safe distance. He ran his hands up and down my waist. As he eyed my outfit once again, he spoke.“Well, so am I.”

Chapter twenty-two

Killian

After setting my phone down, I let out a heavy sigh. Working with a bunch of fools can be stressful, especially when one of them happens to be the annoying CEO, Blaine, who also resides in my home part-time. It feels like I am constantly managing the incompetence of the people in my office and those in his. Additionally, my father’s company, Calvin’s foolish and impulsive actions, and Brielle’s presence are already overwhelming my mind. It’s as if I have no time to think for myself.

Brielle walked into my office from her own, and I couldn’t help but gaze up at her and stare. She was slowly trying to distance herself from me, and I’m sure she knew I could tell. Her body language around me changes so abruptly, and it frustrates me to the fullest extent. She made eye contact with me, and I beckoned her over with my finger as I leaned against my desk. She walked over slowly, and once she was at arm’s length, I gripped her waist and brought her over to me.

She squealed softly and placed her hands down on my shoulders. She tried to move her hands off, but I grabbed them and placed them back. She rolled her eyes at me, and I smiled at her.

“You’ve been avoiding me again, darling,” I spoke, and she gave a cute, sarcastic grin before shrugging her shoulders.

“Like always,” She answered, and I bit my lip as I ran my hands over her hips.

“Well, you’re in quite the mood today, aren’t you?” I stated rather than asked, and she sighed.
