JESSICA

“I’m so tired,” I whined as Logan looked up at me from over his phone.

He smirked, knowing full well why I was tired. After a heavy night out last night, I‘d worked a six-hour shift at the shop.

Logan and Ellie met me from work, and we were sitting in a little coffee shop in town whilst Ellie got herself a drink.

“You should try sleeping at night,” Logan suggested, his eyes glinting with mischief.

“I did try,” I snickered. “At four AM.”

Logan went to respond, but a Christmas-themed coffee cup slammed onto the table, followed by a deep sigh.

I saw Ellie slumping into a chair, looking as beautiful as her brother.

“What’s wrong with you?” Logan rolled his eyes as Ellie scowled at him.

“The barista is gay.”

I snorted into my latte, and Logan raised an eyebrow, his eyes skimming the room as he searched for the barista. It’s odd socialising with Logan and Ellie, considering how much they seemed to detest each other, but I could see hints of their relationship repairing.

Baby steps.

“Him?” Logan nodded towards the guy scrubbing the counter.

“Yeah,” Ellie sighed. “I just wanted toplay.”

Logan scrunched his face up, and I shot him a look, which he pretended not to notice.

“We need a night out,” Ellie declared.

“Are you insane? I still feel drunk.” I chuckled, sucking milk foam from my finger.

I looked up to find Logan staring at me intently, and I made more of a show of it, and he shook his head warningly.

“I need a distraction,” Ellie continued as Logan frowned. “We could go to The Descent.”

I knew it was pointless arguing with Ellie when she was in this mood, but all I wanted to do was crawl into my bed and sleep. The thought of glamming up and drinking again made my stomach churn.

“I can’t,” I confessed, and Ellie groaned. “I’m serious; I need to sleep. I want a bath and my bed.”

“With my brother?” Ellie asked sweetly, and I detected the jealousy in her tone.

“No, I’ve got a fight,” Logan said, stretching his arms above his head. “Although I wouldn’t mind coming home to you in my bed.”

“I don’t think Ellie is up for a night in.” I laughed as Ellie shook her head.

“Nope. I’ve texted Dani to see if she’s up for it. After that, I need to let loose.”

I studied my best friend, knowing that whatever happened between her and Raff that night in his room had cut her deep. I felt for her, but I couldn’t be her wing woman tonight.

My gaze shifted to Logan, watching me, his head tilted to the side. His bruises had only just faded, and he was fighting again. I didn’t want to ask him to stop, but I was devastated that he enjoyed it as much as he did.

“Do you have to fight?” I asked in a small voice as Logan nodded.

“I want to, beautiful.”

“Gross. I’m still not used to this lovey-dovey shit with you two,” Ellie pursed her lips as she sipped her drink.
