“Why can’t I what?”

“Sort your shit out?”

“I dunno, man.” I exhaled through my nose. “I get more money from fighting than I would for any job I’m qualified for.”

Raff nodded, and I knew he understood me.

I could get a job like Jessica, in a supermarket and shit, but she was so friendly and nice…I would tell someone to fuck off if they asked where the pineapples were.

“So get qualified.”

“What?” I chuckled, shaking my head at my friend. “Did you just suggest going to college or some shit?”

“Why not? I’ve been thinking about it. More to life than this.” Raff waved his hands around, sighing. “I keep thinking of moving abroad for a bit. Ibiza or something.”

“Doing what?” I leaned back, my head resting on my laced fingers.

“Repping,” Raff said, becoming animated. “If you get the job, they pay you to live abroad. They pay for your accommodation and shit. Plus, you get a wage.”

“I can’t imagine you welcoming families onto a bus.” I snorted with laughter when he grinned.

“No, I wanna be a club rep.”

Of course, he does.

“You’ve got the experience.” I chuckled, and he joined in. “Plus, you’d get more women than usual.”

“Ha, yeah.” Raff coughed, staring past me through the window into the street. “Bonus.”

I know something is bothering him, and it’s probably my sister. I’m not okay with him pursuing her, at all.

I’ve already seen her cry because of him, which was the last time.

“Another beer?” Raff asked, and I shook my head.

“No. Jessica wants to watch something at the cinema after work; I can’t be half-cut.”

“You’re whipped,” Raff said with wide eyes. “Zander iswhipped.”

I stood, tugging my jacket on. “Ain’t no better feeling.”

“I can imagine,” Raff replied hollowly, following me out the door.

I’m going to ignore that comment.

Chapter Thirty-Six

LOGAN

The expressions on their faces were priceless. I scratched my neck awkwardly, unable to stop the grin from taking over my face.

“You’ve donewhat?” Mum repeated, shaking her head.

“I’ve signed up to do a Youth Justice Worker Course,” I said, watching as my sister gaped at me.

“You’re…going tostudy?”

“Yeah. I don’t start until September, so I’m going to sort out a placement at the community centre just to volunteer. Don’t look so stunned, Ellie.” I huffed.
