It’s a fucking mess.

Rolled-up notes and loyalty cards lined my windowsill. Empty clear bags with dusty remnants sat beside them.

Seems I went on a bender.

An empty bottle of Jack Daniels was on the floor, a puddle of amber liquid soaked into the carpet.

“Christ, Logan,” I muttered, lifting the glass bottle into the bin, followed by the litter from the window.

Empty condom wrappers scattered on my bed, and I grimaced when I realised I had no idea who I used them with.

At least even when I’m fucked on snow and Jack, I use protection.

I drew the curtains, sinking into my bed with a groan.

These painkillers need to get to work pronto.

“Logan Zander. Wake up and look at me.”

My mouth felt like it was filled with cotton wool, but the pain wasn’t as bad as before. I pushed the duvet away from my face to see my mum peering at me with a horrified expression on her face.

“Oh, my Lord in heaven! What happened to you?!” She gasped, her hand trembling as she tried to cover her mouth.

Not a fucking clue.

“I got into a fight, Ma. It looks worse than it is.”

Tears fell down my mum’s cheeks as she lifted the duvet back, which I snatched back from her before she could see the full extent of my injuries.

“Mum, I’m fine,” I sighed, leaning my head back on the pillow. “Just leave me.”

“Is that him?” Ellie called from her room as Mum grimaced.

“Yes, it’s your brother. But he’s barely recognisable.”

This is all I need. These two bitching about the fact I’d been fighting again.

“What day is it?” I asked, reaching down to the floor, fingers searching for my phone.

“Friday,” Mum whispered, shaking her head. “You’ll end up just likehimif you carry on.”

I snapped my head up, letting out a bitter laugh.

“Clearly not, because I’m still here.”

The pain that crossed my mother’s face almost made me apologise, but then I remembered she’s just compared me to my useless fucking father.

“I meant you’ll end up—” The words caught in her throat as she turned, walking out of my room with a sob.

I exhaled through my nose as my sister walked in, a furious glare on her face. Her eyes widened upon seeing me. But then, they softened briefly, allowing me to see the side of my sister I still loved. The sister that still thought I was worth something. But then her lips curled into a snarl, and she looked at me with disgust.

“Do you ever stop to consider how she feels seeing you like that?” Her voice was icy. Not a drop of concern hid there.

“Fuck off, Ellie.”

“You’re dying, Logan. You’re killing yourself, and you don’t care. But it’susthat will have to pick up all of your pieces. Think of that the next time you snort all of your winnings up your nose.”

She stormed out of my room, slamming the door behind her as she did. I glanced down at the floor, noticing a bottle of vodka half full.
